Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is preparing a summer move for Everton starlet Jack Rodwell , according to a report in the News of the World this morning.
Ferguson is planning to pair newly signed central defender Chris Smalling alongside Jack Rodwell in the heart of the Manchester United defence in years to come.
The Premier League champions will bid 12 million pounds for Rodwell who came through the ranks at Everton.
Relations between Manchester United and the Toffees are still frosty over Wayne Rooney’s move to Old Trafford and Ferguson is keen to start negotiations as soon as possible.
Manchester United will also face competition for Rodwell from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea and Everton boss David Moyes will be eager to hang on to the young starlet who is contracted to the club until the end of season 2013/2014.
Jack Rodwell has not played for Everton since picking up a hamstring injury in December. (IMScouting)
If I was a betting man, and I am by the way, I would gamble a large sum of money that Jack Rodwell will sooner or later become a Manchester United player. Not wishing to rain on Everton’s parade or indeed mean any disrespect to the Merseyside club, but the young Englishman will surely decide in the next year (or even sooner) that in order to further his career he will leave Goodison Park and with Sir Alex known to be a big admirer a move to Old Trafford does seem on the cards and will further add to a growing list of young talent being assembled at the Premier League title holders.
The £18m rated England Under 21 international has become a much sought after property since he first exploded onto the scene a couple of years ago and the rapidly maturing youngster has become adept at playing both in the centre of defence when called upon but more successfully in the centre of the Toffees midfield.
As the likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville come towards the end of their Manchester United careers it appears that Sir Alex is building a new breed of Fergie’s Fledglings with the likes of Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans, Darron Gibson and Mare Biram Diouf all looking to have bright futures at the club and with a host of established players still looking to have many years ahead of them it seems that Ferguson has much to look forward to.
If they can nab Jack Rodwell from Everton it will no doubt anger David Moyes in much the same way a certain Wayne Rooney’s exit greatly soured relations between the clubs but could well take the talented youngster to a new level and perhaps make him a future England captain?

I think Rodwell knows he’s at the right club. And while United’s midfield is as weak as it’s been for some years, it’s obvious he’ll get many more opportunities at Everton.

As an everton fan i partially agree, he has been a success in midfield when he plays, he has rapidly matured, and will become more versatile. What i think your missing here, is this lad has shown all this while at everton, and he will become an england captain, again, and already has the landmark as the first englisman to score at the new wembley.
I know this because we are everton, he will go no where. He can be england captain whilst at everton, he will achieve great things at everton, and the lads attitude is spot on, his head wont get turned like rooney, who you referred to earlier. Rodzilla has already stated he wants to challenge for honours, at everton. When he breaks into the 1st team as a regular, we will be. Dont care weather any fans other than everton fans dont believe that, we will. We have other players dominating games who are in their early 20′s now, the future is only going to be good at everton, and man u, as much respect as they deserve for their achivements, wont get this evertonian.

A lot of the comments on here are understandably from irate Everton lads. Welcome to the world of United – we get this shite all the time. The topic doesn’t matter because if it’s United, it sells papers (so they think) even though anyone with a brain stopped buying them years ago.
“No news today, let’s see what we can dream up that we can link with United”.

Sorry but I have to laugh at the silly boy saying Uniteds midfield is as weak as its ever been. If thats so it would make it about 10 times better than Evertons then yeah? And also to the guy that reasons ‘Rodzilla’ will never leave because, wait for it………………..we are Everton. Glad you explained that for me mate and I agree certainly no chance he would be interested in winning trophies and honours because as you say you are Everton……….. Never pleasant having other clubs linked to your players but try and retain a grip reality at least.

What makes this funnier is one simple fact, you may protest all you want but this story isn’t lazy journalism and I would like the author put a large sum of money on this transfer going through in either of the next two windows. That ‘information’ has been leaked by members of your board who have already started a contingency replacement plan. I FUCKING HATE DIPPERS!

Everyones been inconsistent this season, Febuary now 3 months left, United and Chelsea in pole position for the title, Arsenal trying to come third, Liverpool, Villa, Spurs and City fighting for 4th and about 12 teams in a relegation scrap. It could be worse you could be bottom of the worse league the world. Instead United are 2nd in the best league the world with the carling cup and champs league also in reach, Arsenal are going down a Newcastle road of coming close but winning the FA Cup, FA doesn’t stand for football assciotion.

Dear Mr Ferguson (oops, sorry Sir)
I have this idea of getting some young players and establishing a facility within your club to nurture, indeed teach them, using your clubs resources to become Prem League standard – do you think you might like to give it a go?
I have heard a Scottish manager once did this with an English team many years ago, but this could be an urban myth
