Chelsea have pinpointed Barcelona right back Dani Alves as their main transfer target this summer, according to the Daily Star.

Carlo Ancelotti is eager to bring in a new right back in the summer after Branislav Ivanovic has filled in for much of the season.

Manchester City are also interested in Alves who is out of contract at the end of 2011/2012 and has been in negotiations with Barcelona over a new deal in recent weeks.

Alves, arguably the finest right back in world football, would cost Chelsea 30 million pounds and wages of 100,000 pounds-a-week.

The Brazilian international is currently injured for three weeks, in 2009/2010 he has played 25 matches, scoring three goals and providing eight assists. (IMScouting)

You would have thought that given the brilliant start to his Stamford Bridge regime that Carlo Ancelotti wouldn’t have to consider any big money moves this summer, well speculation is rife that the Italian is not totally satisfied with his Chelsea squad and is looking to raid the Nou Camp for a certain Dani Alves.

Considered to be one of the best in the business, the Brazilian right back helped Barcelona to the treble in his first season at the Catalan side and has started this season in much the same vein. However there appears to be some uncertainty about whether the former Sevilla man is going to sign a new deal and that has left many teams waiting anxiously to see what happens next.

Mega rich Manchester City are also reportedly lining up a bid but it seems unlikely that the 26 year old would make a move to a club, who despite having great potential, are still some way off being a Champions League side, let alone a candidate to actually win Europe’s most prized trophy.

If you were to look at the Stamford Bridge side and were in a nitpicking mood then I guess you could consider Branislav Ivanovic to be a potentially weak link but that may be a little harsh as he has performed pretty well this term.
