Serbian international Milan Jovanovic has agreed to join Liverpool this summer, according to his agent.

A number of clubs across Europe have been chasing Jovanovic, who is available on a free transfer when his contract with Standard Liege expires at the end of the season.

Valencia, AC Milan and Juventus were all thought to be keen on acquiring the attacking midfielder, but Jovanovic’s representative, Zoran Stojadinovic, has revealed the 28-year-old has been convinced to move to Anfield by Reds boss Rafa Benitez.

“We have spoken with Rafa Benitez and he convinced us about his project for the club,” Stojadinovic told the Daily Mirror.

“Milan speaks the language and adaptation will not be a problem for him when he moves to England.”

Jovanovic is set to sign a three-year deal at Anfield and the news is a boost for Benitez after seemingly missing out on another free agent Marouane Chamakh. (Sky Sports)

So we missed out on Marouane Chamakh but have agreed terms with Milan Jovanovic, I think all in all the capture of the Serbian suits our needs at Anfield more than the Bordeaux striker who appears set for a move to Arsenal. The well built forward seems more likely to work well alongside Fernando Torres and has a good scoring record that we can only hope will translate to the Premier League.

The 28 year old is set to be offered a three year deal that will cost the club £10m and that seems like a good deal given no transfer fee is needed to nab the out of contract Standard Liege man. Clearly we need another option or firstly if Rafa decides to try playing two up front or indeed if El Nino is out injured and therefore leaves us with not many suitable replacements.

It will be interesting to see how Jovanovic does in the English top tier. His power and determination should work in his favour and his performances in top level World Cup qualifying games for Serbia show that he has the ability to make it in the big time.
