Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini are set to battle it out for the signing of Racing Santander starlet Sergio Canales. The 18-year-old starlet has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal in addition to Barcelona, yet recent speculation intimated the player was on the verge of moving to the Bernabeu.
SKY BET have ruled out a move to Arsenal, Chelsea and the chasing pack pitting Manchester United and Real Madrid against each other in pole position to sign the talented 18-year-old. Ferguson reportedly met with the highly rated midfielder’s father during the January transfer window, and showed the player around the Carrington training complex in a bid to lure him to Old Trafford.
Ferguson is reportedly desperate to land the youngster and steal him from the grip of Real Madrid, continuing on from the signing of Fulham’s Chris Smalling, who will join Manchester United from the West London outfit in the summer for a fee in the region of £10 million. Sir Alex Ferguson won the race to sign the centre half under the noses of Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, who was also reportedly close to securing a deal for the talented centre back.
Ferguson and Pellegrini will lock horns for the talented youngster in the coming days, with the youngster free to sign for either club as he is a free agent in the summer. (Sport.co.uk)
Having seen a plethora of talent leave Old Trafford for the Bernabeu Sir Alex will be keen to get one over on a side that he greatly despises. Sergio Canales has been compared to Cesc Fabregas and anyone who has seen the teenager in La Liga action this term can attest to the 18 year old’s ability as the Racing Santander man continues to show maturity beyond his years.
It appears that uncertainty over the future of current Real Madrid boss Manuel Pellegrini is leading many potential targets to think twice about a move to the Spanish giants and that could well give Manchester United the edge as they look to add more young talent to their ranks.
