Barcelona believe they have a strategy in place to ensure Cesc Fabregas joins them this summer in a £60million deal.
Sources inside the Nou Camp are confident that Fabregas will turn his back on Arsenal and complete a nostalgic return to his first football home.
The Spanish midfielder was just 17 when he walked out on the Catalan giants’ youth academy in 2003 to join the Gunners for a nominal fee.
Barcelona’s public courting of Fabregas, who is under contact at the Emirates until 2013, has enraged the Premier League side.
The Gunners are becoming tired of insisting that their 22-year-old captain is not for sale, and have written to Barcelona requesting that they desist from fuelling speculation about a potential deal.
But Sunday Mirror Sport can reveal details about the finances that Barca have put in place to secure Fabregas’s home-coming at the end of the current campaign.
While European champions Barcelona deny that any contract is in place between the parties, they have budgeted for the deal. This includes a £60m transfer purse, a five-year contract for the player worth a staggering £160,000 a week, a £9m signing-on fee, and image rights and bonuses that could see Fabregas’s earnings rise past the £200,000-per-week mark.
A highly placed source at Barcelona told Sunday Mirror Sport: “It’s no longer a question of if but when Fabregas comes home. (Daily Mirror)
Yep Barcelona are at it again. No sooner had they claimed they were not courting their former youth team product and they are once again strongly linked with a move for the Emirates captain. Take this along with the recent comments from Spanish international Xavi, who stated that he ‘expected’ Cesc to join the Catalan side, and you have yet more blatant tapping up attempts by the La Liga champions.
No wonder Arsene Wenger reported the Nou Camp side to FIFA over their behaviour. Arsenal will always have countless clubs chasing their captain, simply because he is one of the best players on the planet, whch I guess is not a bad position to be in. However, when a club like Barcelona acts in this manner it really is about time the football governing bodies took notice and took some action.
Robin Van Persie snubbed offers to join Chelsea and Manchester City last summer.
The Arsenal striker instead decided to sign a four-year contract at the Emirates, which put him on wages of around £70,000 a week.
Van Persie, 26, was also the subject of interest from Serie A, with Juventus and Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan also watching his contract situation.
The Dutchman said: “It is good that four teams were really interested in me but I had to turn them down. It’s not as easy to leave Arsenal as you maybe think.
“Even if you want to leave, as a player, I don’t think it is easy because when you move to Arsenal you are led there by your heart.” (News of the World)
Robin Van Persie has been battling with his usual seasonal injury, the Dutchman appears to miss a chunk of just about every season he has been at the north London club, but it is good to see the striker revealing his desire and love for the club and like Cesc Fabregas, it is not surprising that many big clubs made hopeful attempts to sign the 26 year old but it is good to see the Arsenal man staying loyal to the side. The former Feyenoord man will be hoping to get back into the action ahead of the World Cup in the summer.
