Ajax Amsterdam vs Juventus FC

Ajax forward Luis Suárez has a pathological phobia of elderly men in red coats which means he couldn’t help Santa when he got stuck up the chimney and refuses to sign for Chelsea for fear of coming into contact with their fearful army of pensioners. He will however consider a £30m move to Arsenal or Manchester United. (Guardian)

So if the Uruguayan is happy to move to either Arsenal or Manchester United then it would appear that the Emirates side is in more urgent need of a new goalscorer and may well also have a greater financial ability to actually secure the deal given the way the Glazers have pumped in large sums of debt into the Old Trafford outfit.

The 23 year old Ajax striker has been a veritable goal machine in the Dutch Eredivisie and whilst it would be all to easy to go on and on about how sub standard that league is it is also worth pointing out that similar accusations were laid out at Ruud Van Nistlerooy and indeed Ronaldo (the original one) also made his name in Holland. Add to that the fantastic performances the former Nacional striker star has faired on the world stage whilst on international duty.

Even by his own standards Suarez has had an amazing season this term, scoring an incredible 35 goals in 33 games and helped his Ajax side continue their slow recovery from fallen giants. With Arsenal having severe injury issues up front the club has been left to play players out of position and as a result have lost their way of late after a fantastic run of form put them in the running for the Premier League title.

Arsene Wenger would appear to be ready to bring in a new front man, he tried his hardest to do so in January. If he fails to capture Marouane Chamakh then perhaps he will be tempted to bring in a big money signing to appease his long suffering fans, four years without silverware has left the club’s supporters hoping that the Gunners will invest this summer and they would probably be more than happy with such a capture but may baulk at the transfer fee which would be a club record investment.
