Football - Bolton Wanderers v Arsenal Barclays Premier League

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique is confident that Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas will head back to the Camp Nou in the future, maybe as soon as next summer.

Fabregas, who started out as a youngster in the Barca youth set-up, is being heavily linked with a return to Spain and Pique would welcome him with open arms.

He said: “I still do not know if he will come here next season, but one day he will wear the Barca shirt again because he is a fan and I know that he wants to come back in the future.

“He is a player that should play here and he wants to come, but we will have to wait and see when that is.”

Meanwhile, Andres Iniesta has confirmed that Real Madrid have shown some interest in him in the past.

The 25-year-old is set to make his 300th appearance for Barca this weekend in a league clash with Racing Santander and says that he has no wish to move away from the Camp Nou.

He told Sport: “It has always been a half-interest, but Barcelona has given everything to me and my family.

“There would be nothing that would make me happier than to end my career here.”

Iniesta’s midfield colleague for club and country, Xavi, has also admitted that he has considered moving on in the past. (Independent)

What the hell is going on. I just don’t get it. Never have I seen one club try just about every trick in the book, legal or illegal, to try to unsettle a contracted player at another club. What is Gerard Pique’s problem? If these quotes are correct then the former Manchester United man is just adding yet more fuel to the speculation and his assertion that the Emirates skipper “wants to come” to Barcelona is surely a clear case of a player being used to ‘tap-up’ a player.

Just a week ago the Nou Camp side tried to distance themselves from the relentless speculation linking the Gunners midfielder with a move back to the Catalan giants but it appears that such behaviour was just an anomaly as once again Pepe Guardiola’s side tries to use all manner of backhanded ways to nab the impressive Spaniard.

If I were Arsene Wenger I would once again complain to the relevant footballing governing bodies because this simply must not be allowed to continue. Can you imagine for instance if Arsenal stated via a local paper, lets say the Islington Gazette, that they have ‘practically’ signed Leo Messi, or that “Messi was very interested in a move to the north London side” or perhaps that the Argentine had “already secretly signed a big money deal” to join the Premier League club. What do you think would happen? You can guarantee that FIFA or UEFA would punish the English side, but as this is an action detrimentally affecting a British side they do nothing.

And then lets just say a succession of players at the Emirates stated that they knew that Messi “wanted to join the club” and that a deal was almost done and that it was only a matter of time before such a deal was completed, do you think no action would be taken? I think not.

This just beggars belief and thankfully Cesc Fabregas has done his best to show his loyalty to the club and has repeatedly stated he was going nowhere but it seems to do little to end the La Liga sides tricks to force the issue. Expect this Barcelona tactic to get even more disgusting come the summer, especially if Arsenal have failed to end their silverware drought.
