Premier League: Manchester City 2 v 0 Portsmouth

STEPHEN IRELAND is so disillusioned with life at Manchester City that he’s hoping Arsenal step up their interest this summer.

The Irish midfielder has failed to win the faith of new manager Roberto Mancini and is becoming increasingly frustrated at Eastlands.

However, he is expected to be back in the team for Sunday’s crunch clash with Liverpool, alongside Nigel de Jong and Gareth Barry. (News of the World)

Who say’s progress is a fine thing? Having seen Manchester City bring in all manner of big name signings in the past two years, Stephen Ireland has still been pretty much the shining light in the attacking third for the Eastlands side but now he is beginning to feel that he may have to leave the big spending club and a move to the Emirates may just be the ticket for the Irish international.

Arsenal have a great many attacking midfielders but may well be very interested in a central midfielder with the amount of creativity and flair as the 23 year old Cork born lad. Arsene Wenger is known to be an admirer of former Cobh Rambler and may feel that this summer is the right time to make a move for the £15m rated midfielder.

The north London side may well attempt to make a number of big name signings if this season ends in more silverware-less disappointment and the Gunners support would probably welcome a move for Ireland who has shown in the past two or three seasons just how adept he is at creating goals as well as weighing in with a fair few special finishes of his own.

Arsenal saw Manchester City snap up Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor last summer and will hope to pounce for the reportedly unhappy star and he may well be just one of many who could be seeking a move away from Eastlands as reports emerge about some players not being too keen on the club’s new Italian boss’s coaching methods.

In turn if Mancini fails to clinch a coveted top four spot then he too may be under pressure to freshen up his squad to achieve the level of success the club’s owners demand. Having already brought in several midfielders over the past 18 months it could be in this very area that Manchester City look to cash in on.
