Spanish striker David Villa is ready to quit financially hit Valencia for Chelsea this summer.
Chelsea’s interest in Villa has increased in recent weeks with their failure to reach an agreement on a new contract with Nicolas Anelka.
Valencia remains under financial pressure to sell and the Blues are waiting to take advantage.
Villa’s £30 million price tag would instantly solve the La Liga outfit’s financial problems, after their failure to sell their legendary Mestalla Stadium to property developers, News of the World reports.
The Spain striker is seen as a finished article and he has a strike record and reputation feared worldwide.
Villa initially claimed he did not want to move abroad, as his wife had just given birth to their second child, and named Real Madrid as his preferred destination. (Daily News)
David Villa has confounded many by staying at financially crippled Valencia for so long. It’s not secret that moves to Real Madrid and to a lesser extent Barcelona didn’t materialise primarily because both La Liga sides plumped instead for alternative striker signings in the summer, namely Karim Benzema and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but now the net is closing on the Spanish goal machine.
Carlo Ancelotti appears to be having some problems nailing down Nicolas Anelka, with the Frenchman demanding a hefty pay hike when his current deal, set to run out in just under 18 months, runs out. This has led many to believe that a Stamford Bridge move for Villa is this summer’s main transfer plan for the Blues.
The 26 year old Mestalla hero looks set to finally end his time at the club and one can only imagine just how well the Spanish international will take to life in the Premier League if indeed his long protracted move to the English top tier does indeed come to fruition. For the past five years the speedy intelligent and lethal finisher has scared the life out of La Liga defences, who will probably be praying that he leaves the country, and the summer may be the most sensible time for him to leave.
Expect a late move from Manchester City who have been trailing that striker for some time although quite what the Eastlands side would then do with their other long line of top notch goalscorers is a mystery to me, but expect a bid from the megabucks club nonetheless.
