Ryan Babel is hoping he can now display his best form for Liverpool following talks with manager Rafa Benitez.
Dutch attacker Babel has struggled to make a sustained impact on Merseyside since joining the club from Ajax in 2007 and was tipped for a January exit.
He revealed on his Twitter account last month that he had been dropped from the squad to face Stoke City before subsequently apologising for his actions.
On Sunday, Babel was rewarded with his first start in the Premier League for three months as he played 75 minutes of the 0-0 draw at Manchester City.
And, following discussions with Benitez, the 23-year-old believes he is now aware of what he needs to do in order to be a success at Liverpool.“I have had a good talk with the manager and I know what I have to do,” said Babel. “That is what I am going to concentrate on.
“I just have to try to be patient, keep working hard and doing my best.” (Sky Sports)
You have to credit Ryan Babel with a certain amount of determination to prove himself at Liverpool and recent cameo appearances earned him a rare first team start and it could well be that in the remaining months of this season he could yet surprise a few people.
The former Ajax man arrived amidst quite a fanfare and I for one was convinced we had snapped up a truly talented creative flair player who could make it in the Premier League, but thus far he has been, for want of a better word, a failure. His first season he was used sparingly and appeared to be ready to make the next step in the following campaign but his lackluster form and languid style made him look lazy and ineffective, and a player we could not afford to risk giving playing time to.
Now in this this third season he has caused a bit of an off field palaver with some of his Twitter antics and it really did look like he may be on his way out in January and apparently Birmingham made a hefty bid for the winger but he didn’t fancy the move. The 23 year old is running out of second chances and come the summer all parties will know where they stand and all the wide man can do is try his best when he is given a chance and then see where he is at the end of the season.
