I was glad to see the line-up that rafa put out today. It was good to see Gerrard back in the middle with Torres up top. I think we may have to find a right back as Masch was caught out of position a couple of times and didn’t fully understand his job. Otherwise good game Reds!

Quality! So much better with one holding midfielder and players in their best positions ball moved so much faster through Stevie g. Reina-7 mixed bag dodgy under high balls top notch shot stopping though Mascherano-8 was worried about him at right back was ferocious and timed everything perfectly man of the match again Aurelio-6 was playing really well just too injury prone Carragher-6 good performance apart from the pen what was he thinking? Agger-6 some poor, nervous clearances didn’t carry the ball out of defence either lucas-6 started poorly much improved second half Gerrard-7 pulled the strings from deeper and his goal was just class stopped making the runs second half Benayoun-7 was awesome first half tired in the second made things happen though Kuyt-7 much better centrally good distribution and chased down the opposition all game Rodriguez-7 few really classy passes much better on the right Torres-7 what a display first half! Ran out of steam in the second as you would expect subs insua-6 defended well probably most physical i have seen him too Babel-6 only had 10 minutes and didn’t see much of the ball ngog-too little time to rate

- Bob from Finland –
I still wish Rafa would have played Aquilani instead of Kuyt.
Kuyt is so awkward at times it frustrates the shit out of me and we need someone playing off Torres who can find that killer pass in to the box.

The other really good thing was that we didn’t just try to out scrap the lesser opposition we let the quality shine and played football despite Blackburn trying everything to turn it into a war. Don’t know how the hell they finished the game with 11 players

Yossi is excellent on the left, I say play him there. Aquilani really needs some playing time in that central attacking role. He has only played there one time this season (the spurs game) and nailed it..
I mean just think of the damage that can be done with Torres playing as the lone striker instead of Kuyt.

i just can’t believe the ref actually almost helped b’burn bulldozed their way into a result. two players at least should have been sent of for their reckless reactions.

I agree with Bob. What did Kuyt offer today that Aquilani couldn’t have? Aquilani can tackle, he works hard, he has far better first touch, he offers much more vision…. Maybe Kuyt is working himself out of the team?

good to see torres back and scoring

Thought Kuyt did ok today personally he spread the play quickly brought yossi and maxi into things and was hustling their defenders into errors, ok he isn’t creative in that position but he is always likely to poach a goal there. It is confusing Rafa’s reluctance to play Aquilani though

just got back from the match . and have to say i relly enjoyed myself for the first time in ages . nice to see el nino doing what he does best . i have to agree though on the aquilani thing . i have said this ever since hes been fit though . it seems to me rafa has wasted 20million squid . cos he just dosent look like hes ever gonna break into the first 11 on a regular basis . and at that kind ov money he has to be a main feature in the team for me. i cant beleve rafa sacked the 2 defensive midfielder system . but im so pleased he did . mind he does tend to make good desicions when its to late . all in all a good solid performance from the redmen . but i fear its to little to late man city looked deadly yesterday . and i just cant see us catching them with games against the scum and chelsea still in our fixture sheet . oh well . lets just give praise for today . narnarnarnarnarnar fernando torres liverpools number 9 . Through a well connected grapevine, I heard Rafa will only stay after this summer, if the new owners are to be found. Everybody on the current team could be sold, except Reyna, Johnson, Stevie G. and Torres. That’s is reality that will cheer some fans up and depress others no doubt. There is no question, that Rafa does not like managing a team that has to work so bloody hard beating “the Blackburns, the Debrecens” of the football world. Something has to give, RBS will try to push the Americans out, or force them to bring more of their money(equity) into the club. Potential investors/owners are unlikely to jump into the fray now, they would prefer to deal with reasonable/motivated/realistic owners, whether it means H&G or the bank or the combination of both.
Congratulations to theboys, staff and the fans of LFC on a victory over “the new Bolton” of the EPL.

Aquilani wouldn’t have been effective in this game… Blackburn set their stall out to thug us out of the game… Aquilani would have been picked apart.
Reina: Fantastic performance… Had a dodgy first half with crosses and set pieces but in the second half was commanding
Mascherano: Man of the Match
Carragher: Shame about the handball, i thought it was accidental, the commentators thought otherwise… Made some good interceptions… Pretty much solid performance
Agger: Apart from a dodgy clearance in the second half which could have cost us
Aurelio/Insua: Both had similar performances, shame about Aurelio’s injury
Maxi: Great game, my second man of the match… Very technically gifted and great composure to set up Torres
Lucas: Good performance, although was getting bullied frequently… Amazing through ball for Torres’ goal
I thought Stevie played an OK game… Apart from some good long balls, switching play and his goal i thought he was really sloppy at times and put our backline under unnecessary pressure.
Benayoun: Good performance although less than we are expected from him… Great assist on the Gerrard goal…Like Maxi great composure to pick out the pass to Gerrard
Kuyt: Worked his socks off and hassled the Blackburn defense into making a lot of mistakes… On a couple of occasions should have shot instead of looking for the difficult pass
Torres had a good solid first 60 minutes, after that the tiredness set in, which is understandable
Babel: didn’t get much time to impress but credit where credit is due: Great positioning from him sat deep and defended with the team… Well done son
N’Gog: didn’t play long enough to judge
Overall:
Nice team performance, good defending, quality attacking options… With the offensive quality on the field i still feel we didn’t attack enough… i saw the stats and Blackburn had more attempts on goal then we did, At Anfield this is not acceptable, although i am happy with the win… I thought that Gerrard moving back into midfield turned out to be a success and a failure at the same time… Our long balls to the wing were more effective from Gerrard but he didn’t influence the game as much as i would like, was very sloppy on many occasions. Torres coming back is a great plus for us… With him we are a different animal. Although our attacking play was of a far bigger quality than what we are used to, we still didn’t do enough of it, but, i am sure it will get better as soon as Torres, Benayoun and co. reach their max fitness levels…
Bring on Wigan!

Spota, the destructive captain of Chelsea, at last, managed to split his team, and depress their morale. It will be interesting to see whether Ancelotti manages to arrest the decay. So Man City beat a subpar team yesterday. Other than selfish Terry, there is also a Ballack who preferred his own personal agenda over the good of the team and Hilario that was out of position on 2 first goals.
I believe we have to trust that our healthy boys will play stronger and replay their performance from last season ( with only Skrtel on the sideline). If so, why can’t we beat Chelsea ar Anfield and Man U.away? We have to keep on winning and not to worry to much about the competition for the 4th spot.

City have got a lot harder run in than us. Everton are out of it now so back to four horse race. Think Chelsea really miss ashley cole too he has been their best player this season and with terry’s mind elsewhere and hilarious in goal agree with dr barnard city played them at the right time

firstly to micky finn so if aquillani would ov got picked apart by a very average blackburn side are you not saying hes NOT good enuff to play for this club . cos if that is the case rafa has wasted another 20million . cos if he is not good enuff to play against blackburn . what good is he to us . ateam that competes against the best in europe !
dr barnard . i also agree terry is playing absolutely terrible . and i fear he will cost us at the world cup ! and im not saying we cant do united or chelsea but to be fair . on current form its not likely . rooney or drogba will rip us to bits at the moment . and arent chelsea one ov the best teams in the league at set pieces . where we are terrible at defending them . and now without skrtel also !
plus city have more points and a game in hand . i hope your right my friend but you have to say they are favorites . and it dont stop there all the big guns are gonna spend massive in the summer . and can we afford to compete. i dont just fear for this season under rafa and the yanks i fear for the naxt five years . we are making it look hard to beat sub-standard teams . i truly hope you are wright but we are second favorites and on paper thats a FACT!

I can’t understand why he (Rafa) played Masch’ at RB….. Yes he can play there but why not play Darby, Kelly, or Kyrgiakos and drop Lucas to the bench, why hamper the team unnecessarily. If he does not trust Degen at right back why keep him?…..

Mascherano did put in a couple of solid tackles and was aggresive the whole game. It was good to see him going forward on plays as well, but I agree with the first guy that there were moments where he followed his man too far wide and forgot that his job is to protect the goal. There was a ball that got played in behind him about the 60 min mark that could have ended up really badly. There was also the time were he felt he needed to go from sideline to sideline with the ball instead of letting others clear the ball out of our 18. Beside a couple of instances i thought that he played pretty well. He was able to connect with the others going forward. Him playing in the back allowed us to put a solid line up onto the field. I really liked seeing Gerrard directing things from the middle. I was impressed by Maxi as it seemed that he played really well today, especially with his takeaway that resulted in a free kick a little outside the 18. Overall a fine game for the team, hopefully we can keep it up.

spota – February 28th, 2010 at 8:09 pm …….
Quite correct spota if Aquilani can not play in a physical game he is indeed no good to us and a waste of £20m…..
For there are going to be times when injury dictates he has to play these types of game……
Personally the way he plays I see no problem with him playing these types of games…….

Aquaman - February 28th, 2010 at 9:04 pm
First things first. Happy Birthday Spota!
Good result. Fair performance. Good to see the life blood flowing again.
Starters
Reina – Best keeper in the league and proved it once again. Was being mauled whenever they took a corner with no protection, but still managed to keep them out. Second man of the match.
Masch – What can you say? Anyone who ever doubted his quality must surely know how wrong they were by now. Didn’t really get the finer elements of being a rightback, so he just destroyed everything on his half of the pitch to make up for it. Man of the Match.
Carra – I too think that the handball was accidental. Definitely a pen though. Other than that he did well against some real brutish forwards. Seems a little out of practice in the position though.
Agger – He’s been the most suspect of our four defenders in the recent past. Did capably but not brilliantly. He’s struggling in the air.
Aurelio – I think its time for him to move on. He never really seemed into the game at all. I was sad to see him injured, but glad that it meant Insua was coming on. Always a bad sign.
Maxi – Showed his quality once again. The understanding with the team is growing. Torres knows him and they linked together brilliantly and immediately. Hope the rest of the team develops a similar understanding with him soon.
Lucas – Good performance. The midfield was a war-zone and Lucas did admirably. Still gave away a few silly fouls, but he’s getting better all the time.
Gerrard – Read an article where Gerrard said that his belief is back. So glad to hear that as I suspected it had gone missing ages ago. Great performance in his natural position. Aquilani has to play in the hole with Gerrard next to Masch. It’s perfect!
Yossi – Twisted and danced as he always does. We’ve missed him. So glad to see him back and flying.
Kuyt – Hmm. Not bad but not good. Sat very deep. So deep that I think he was actually playing in the Gerrard hole. Did ok, but would have preferred Aquilani.
Torres – Played out of his usual position of First Medical Patient, and performed well. Seriously though, great to see the man back. Oh how we have missed him!
Subs
Insua – Did well. Caught out a couple of times (surprise surprise) but did the job much better than Aurelio (in my opinion).
Babel – The best thing about Babel’s appearance was the team spirit as he came on. He applauded Yossi, high fived his nearest team mate, and immediately started working. I’m actually starting to get excited about Babel again, and I can’t believe that I’m saying that.
N’Gog – Um… He kicked the ball a bit… and… um…. yeah….
Overall
I felt that the team was a little unsure at first. Masch, Carra, Gerrard, and Kuyt were all playing in unusual positions (at least recently). Add Torres, Aurelio and Yossi who are all fresh from injury and you have a very risky team sheet. The result was good when you take that into consideration.
I agree on both sides of the Aquilani argument. One that he should have been picked over Kuyt, and two that he would have struggled in the game. The man cost 20mil though and it is imperative that he get exposure to these physical games. If he doesn’t then he’s never going to get into the swing of them and he won’t be the player that he could be for us.
The other interesting thing to note is how long Torres played. I think this was a desperate move by Rafa to try and get as much match fitness into Torres as possible before the Spanish pricks ride him until he breaks. Watch him start, watch him get kicked, watch him not get subbed. If he does get injured then I hope Rafa sues like Wenger was going to for Van Persie.
I’m so glad that Kyrgiakos’ suspension is over now. Carra and Agger are both a little suspect in the air and Blackburn could and probably should have caught us out for that. We need to get a rightback in as well. Masch and Gerrard in midfield with Aquilani in front has to be the way forward. Not original, I know, but it just makes sense to me.

anyways aquaman i agree that we do struggle in the air at the back. we havnt got a player who will go where it hurts. Evening all-happy birthday spota if all is well you will be far too drunk to read this or bother lol on the Aquilani debate he has come from the italian league not french or spanish he is probably more used to rough house defenders than anyone, don’t buy into him being made of glass at all. That said i am sure by looking at the comments i will be in the minority here but i have been totally unimpressed with Aquilani the glimmers of greatness we jump on and lap up because of the price tag far more times he has been totally wasteful i know he is just back from a long injury and has been deployed in an unfamiliar holding role sometimes too and further forward it is less of a risk but i would say the more than occasional suicide pass has more to do with his exclusion than his fitness or ability to cope with a physical game. When he came back to fitness he made waves through his father about being excluded by now with his world cup dreams in tatters along with Spota can see another Keane scenario.

First of all have you people ever actually watched Serie A? You think defenders like Chiellini, Materazzi, Cesare Bovo etc play with silk gloves in their hands. I think Aquilani is well used to rough games and he’s actually not even that lightly build (6′ 1” (1.85m) / 12.4 st (79 kg)) so I would presume he can manage blackburn.
If the case is his attitude or quality then it has been money badly spent. I read an interesting comment on goal.com from a juventus fan suggesting they should swap Diego with Aquilani in the summer…what do you think about that?

Its a shame Aquilani isnt playing would really like to see what he can do when fully match fit and playing games. But i dont think its fair to be slating Kuyt, hes no superstar but hes always putting in 100% for us and hes been the only reason weve been coming away with points recently .
Good to see torres back and gerrard controlling the midfield again.
The only way is up!

Chosen one-always liked joe cole and ancelotti obviously doesn’t rate him as highly as he should if we could get him would be a real coup, need the champions league football to draw in the likes of him and turan. If we could get him free would let Kuyt and Riera go, Kuyt is getting on and is a high earner and Riera is just too slow. The transfer fees from the 2 would cover turan’s and the wages wouldn’t be miles apart probably just be a £5m short fall in cole’s signing fee and other bits. Would give us turan/Benayoun/cole/Babel(LM) cole/maxi/Babel/Benayoun(RM) cole/Benayoun/Gerrard/Aquilani(ACM) masses of top quality cover in all areas as well as Jovanovic/Nemeth/pacheco partners in a 4-4-2 to Torres/Jovanovic/Babel/ngog if we could pull off that deal would only need a top quality left back in my opinion and there is still a few like degen/Aurelio(too injury prone) and el zhar who can be let go.

Isaac- Mascherano was my man of the match would still have much rather seen kelly or Darby get the chance and lucas drop down to the bench. We have 2 top quality young right backs who with johnson’s injury and degen not an option that can be trusted should have expected more game time. Again people will accuse me of lucas bashing but he is so average Gerrard playing back in centre midfield showed us the massive difference, his choice and range of passes means the tempo of our attacks is massively improved. Was a much improved team sheet but without his favourites lucas and Kuyt could have been even better. Obviously the highlights didn’t do Torres justice he was razor sharp beating 3/4 men at times one point the defender had let the ball go for a throw and Torres came out of nowhere and was off towards goal ball just went out though he ran out of steam second half but after his all action first half in his first game back had to do really.

i dont like seeing mascherano playing at right back especially how good he has been playing in midfield lately. but my point is that donavan always has a go when it isnt needed. would darby or kelly been man of the match? highly unlikely so rafa got this one right. he also got it right as lucas played an alonso type bal in the build up to the second goal. i would much rather see us play with gerrard and mascherano in midfield with either aquilani or benayoun behind torres. and before the match i would have rather had kelly in their than darby or mascherano but it turned out to be a good decision from rafa but donavan always has something bad to say.

Isaac-Mascherano did the same as he would do in CM and tackled everything that moved like the demon he is. Kelly and Darby were both man of the match in their respective last starts at lyon and reading as recognised right backs give you a lot more going forward though. Was happy with the performance but its still frustrating that lucas(who did waste possession on numerous occasions including dangerously dwelling on the ball in the first half getting caught and Blackburn nearly scoring from it) and Kuyt are accomodated in the team no matter what. If we had Mascherano holding yesterday Reina wouldn’t have been called into action nearly as much and the result wouldn’t have been as hard fought. Rodriguez played really well too when he saw the ball a recognised right back would have got it to him more. A more creative influence than Kuyt behind Torres like Aquilani or Benayoun with Babel on the left and we would have probably rolled them over totally. That said think everyone is generally happy with the more positive team especially the change of formation. Still feel we can field much better teams than we do personally and as you know i am a massive fan of Darby and kelly it does frustrate me that they have come in performed and not been rewarded.

Isaac-looking at it again we are agreeing on everything really. Think Blackburn did go for a win more than a lot of teams we have coming up will because of the allardyce/rafa bad blood so in games to come that extra creative player we are all talking about and the Mascherano/Gerrard partnership in CM could make the difference in getting wins not draws. We have the best defensive midfielder in the world and the best attacking its the partnership that should make us the best team in the world but its never used yet when Mascherano was injured earlier on in the season Gerrard dropped back Benayoun went behind Torres and we thrashed teams off the park. Again Mascherano not involved in the midfield Gerrard drops back. Lucas just has to be accomodated in Rafa’s eyes where as in mine he is just an average squad player.

Let me answer that with a few questions of my own….. Did I or did I not make a post of how to get the match, and all other LFC games live on the net giving the two sites you need to download the things you need?…….
Is there any rule that I maybe unaware of that governs when I can or cannot make a post?…..
Now having stated that, besides the link going down on the TVUPlayer and have to switch to a non English speaking channel (al of 3mins) Yes I saw all the game…..
Mascherano had a great game but the facts still remain that I would have sooner seen a defender playing right back and Mascherano in front of the back four
As for the “do you know absolutely nothing about football?”….. It and the “You’re not a real fan” are only used by people trying to make a weak argument look strong…..
he also got it right as lucas played an alonso type bal in the build up to the second goal……. The “He” I’ll take as Rafa….. How do you know that if we played Mascherano were he normally plays that we would not have won that by 4-1?
Lucas may have played a killer ball but given enough time on the pitch the odds are heavily in favour of any player playing a killer ball….. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day

Isaac said he didn’t like seeing Mascherano moved out of position and would have gone for kelly, exactly what you thought. He also said he would like a midfield of Mascherano and Gerrard with Aquilani or Benayoun further forward. Sure that is exactly the same as what you are saying too. Neither actually thinks lucas deserves a starting berth over the other players we have available so really can’t see where the disagreement is??

this is my preffered team, when all fit
——————reina
johnson—agger—carragher—insua
——————mascherano
kuyt———–gerrard———–babel
—————-torres
i would like to see this team and more importantly the formation as i dont like 2 dms. however i couldnt care less what formation/players we played as long as the results are consistantly good. when all players are fit we actually havnt got a bad squad but just lacking a CF as back up to torres. we have decent wingers and lucas isnt a bad squad player and may develop with experience.

I would definitely but maxi and benny on the wings with aquilani in the hole. I do have massive respect for kuyt’s attitude and workrate but I mean as a right winger he is just too slow, too unimaginative and too inefficient…. Although with his attitude I would prefer he would be the back up for Torres. He has that poacher’s instict and he loves liverpool enough to accept the backup role…especially since Torres is a bit injury prone.

Reina
Johnson/Darby——Carragher/Kelly…..Agger/Skrtel…..Insua/ Aurelio
Kuyt/ Rodríguez——-Gerrard—-Mascherano/Spearing…..Benayoun/ Rodríguez
Torres/Aquilani/Benayoun/Pacheco
Babel/Torres/ Pacheco
Depending on whom we are playing and if we need to win the game (Group stages of the CL). And against weaker opposition i.e. we are 4-0 up and bossing the game and no sub have been made…..
Torres only played behind the striker if it is Babel…. For he can, and have played there for Spain, and I believe with Babel’s pace it would open up holes for Torres, It also allows Torres to turn and run at defenders

We have a much better squad than arsenal people don’t appreciate the quality of it personally think we have a better squad than united too and on a par with Chelsea and city we are far from ‘just an organised team who aren’t going to set the premiership alight’ ‘lucas isn’t a bad squad player’ but he isn’t used like that! He like Kuyt is a first team regular and they don’t deserve to be. If they weren’t and some more of the potential match winners we have had more game time then we could achieve consistent wins and titles. Chosen one-even the commentators picked up that it was a deliberate ploy from Blackburn to hound lucas when in possession and force mistakes he got caught out loads of times in the first half in the second Gerrard came back deeper and stopped making forward runs to protect him taking away our attacking threat, they targeted lucas because he is a weak link, alongside Mascherano Gerrard could get forward at will just like he did for years alongside hamann only Mascherano is twice the safety net that hamann was. Only at the end of the game did Blackburn play long balls when they moved samba up front all their threat before came through the midfield. We all agree its a big improvement on the 2 holding midfielders there are a couple more things that can be done to make us perform as we should be with the players available in my opinion.

I would sooner have Masch’ protecting the back four than Lucas, plus Masch’ can maybe do a job as right back but he is not really a defender were as the others are….
Thing is if we win Rafa will feel that he made the right choices, where as he was just lucky to get a way with it…..”
What i am asking here is DID Rafa need to play lucas is that why Macsh’ had to go Right back?…..after all Macsh’ or Lucas mid-field who would you play?….If Macsh’ then why not play,Darby,Kelly at RB, or Kyrgiakos in the middle and Carragher RB….

IF Rafa sets the team out to win,
IF players under performs and he subs them in a timely a manner(ie They are not performing in the first 15 + minutes and he does not wait for the magic 65th minute)
IF the team plays for the shirt and supporters, play with heart and passion
IF we try take our chances and yet we still lose
What have i got to complain about?….. It’s football and in football sometimes a team plays it’s best and still loses…
Also when Lucas Leiva scored a Own-Goal against Aston Villa 24th August 2009 after giving away the free kick that lead up to it I said in my post here………. Liverpool Vs Aston Villa Team News and Prediction Thread
Donavan Ried – August 24th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
“here to start ……… 1-3 loss to Villa is never easy to take and this game started so brightly for us we could and maybe should have been 2 goals up in the first 12 minutes …….
Torres was on the end of a few bumps, and should have been give a few freekicks, though the lack of protection from the ref was no excuse for Torres’s antics and constant arguing with the official…….
The free kick that lead to the first goal was soft, (and not being the biggest fan of Lucas), I refuse to blame him for it. ….. I also refuse to blame him for the attempted headed clearance that found the back of the net either …. It happens. Ask Gerrard, Carra’, Agger and Riise. I Felt for Lucas …… You could see he was gutted …… But I was impressed with his response, almost getting on the end of a cross to level things up in the very next attack…..
In the meantime we did look a threat going forward, but was quite often let down by the final pass,(Benayoun the biggest offender) ……
The second goal has to rest with Torres ….. I am not a fan of zonal marking, but Torres should be use to this, and failed to react when Davies stepped in front of him ……
Torres became more and more frustrated as the game when on …..And a late goal did little to ease that frustration ….
Gerard’s simple mistimed the tackle ….. There are thing that I question …..
(1) WHY DOES RAFA WAIT UNTIL AFTER THE 62MINUTE BEFORE HE MAKES A CHANGE? ……
(2) WHY WAS RIERA NOT IN THE STARTING LINE UP? ……
(3) WHY WAS RIERA NOT BROUGHT ON?…….
(4) WE ARE CHASING THE GAME SO WHY NOT TAKE OFF MASCH’ INSTEAD OF LUCAS?…….
(5) WHY NOT BRING ON BABEL TO PLAY UP FRONT WITH TORRES INSTEAD OF VORONIN?…..
If anything, this game, just like the Tottenham game proves that we need another quality striker, and that Rafa just doesn’t know what to do to change a game that is going against him ….
I am refusing to answer any post aimed at my comments unless you log in and add your name to the comment ….. thank you”
I was one of a few to stick up for him…. I will not blame anyone for something they have no control over…

not sure why everyone is praising Rafa’s lineup…..Rafa was forced to give up his to holding mids because of the results from Man Citys game. He had to put masch in the D because of the injuries to the Greek and Skertal and starting Kelly in what has now become every game is important was too risky. It was the same lineup. 1 holding mid and 1 holding mid/def. If you want to really see the 2 holding mids gone Aqua should be in place of lucus who look like a rag doll getting push around all game.

Even when Lucas plays well, its because the rest of the Liverpool team were crap, instead of credit where its due. So when Gerrard has a good game, is it because the rest were crap that game????
What about Carragher, his performance set the world on fire didn’t it? Almost lost us three points with his defending. How many times in the last two seasons has he been responsible for penalties, hand balls and own goals etc… Yet don’t hear the same criticism as Lucas..

I know, I am a bit late but I just saw a replay of Blackburn tilt. A few points:
A. a MON – without any doubt Pepe Reyna
B. Morten Gamst Pedersen – I would definitely consider him, smart, skilfull, good instincts, anticipates play well.
C. If there is a goal deserving 2 assists, it would be our 2nd goal, Lucas’s first touch pass was heavenly, it created the goal as much as Maxi’s pass;
D. Benny weak clearence led to a penalty;
E. Paul Robinson deserves 2 assists on both of our goals, was a 3 yards too far, and 2 seconds to late on both.
F. Most of Blackburn players play to intimidate first, to win second. The Ref let them get away with multiple “red card fouls”.
If it sound silly, so be it, Blackburn has 34 points, Allardyce’s game plan included a few injuries to derail our campaign for the 4th….
g. I’m glad Aquilani missed this game, he would not survive it, not with the current low quality refereeing in the EPL.

If Rafa doesn’t play Aquilani in thugish games he gets slated for not playing him, just look at the treatment that Agger got, Maxi and Lucas as well. In the stoke game look at Ramsey and other challenges that went in.
Pulis and Alerdyce are scum bags who think about kicking other teams out of the game is part of the English game, well its not.
Can you believe it we were thinking about have Fat Shit Sam ham sandwich as our England manager.
Well done Rafa for not playing Aquilani in games like Stoke and Blackburn, for their is no protection for our players especially if they atre foriegn and its DEFINITELY true for Arsenal.
With Arsenal, we are told you have to get in their faces to stop them playing, but what does that exactly mean???Because all Arsenal ever get is foul after foul being commited and sometimes career threatening tackles being made, and then being defended by the Anti-Arsenel media defending the tackles.

WELL IF YOU ARE IN THE MIDFIELD YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE MISTAKES TOO, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE INVOLVED THE MOST.
My point is if you are going to criticize Lucas for his mistakes and crucify him. Then its equally fair to criticize Carra, Gerrard when he misses sitters, Benayoun with his mistakes like Reading game in the last minute and yesterday too.
But Lucas seems to be fair game regardless.

it should have read:
“A. a MOG – without any doubt Pepe Reyna”
Also, I meant at 34 points Blackburn is not really fighting relegation, they could and have employed thuggery to keep their intimidating image up, that would have scared meeker teams, Allardyce could afford to lose the game, and enjoy watching our players stretchered off the field… As it stand now, we may lose Agger for a game or two, and hopefully Pepe is o’key having been exposed to Stevie Hunt like aggression. I am glad, Kyrgiakos suspension is over….
And lastly, is it possible that Rafa was protecting short tempered Masch from physical confrontation , playing him as RB, too avoid him beeing sent off…..Just a thought!

4 can you name 4 players that have improved generally on their play from last season or who is liverpools most improved player.

anonymous – March 1st, 2010 at 10:06 pm…. “donavan weed”……ROFL….. That’s s funny. Did you think that one up all by yourself or did mommy help you?
“you think you can come on here talk nonsense and be considered to be a good knowlegeble fan”…… why not…. You seem to think you can, so why not me?
As I said before ……..As for the “do you know absolutely nothing about football?”….. It and the “You’re not a real fan” now you can add these two to it too “considered to be a good knowledgeable fan”. And “you don’t know what the “Liverpool way” are only used by people trying to make a weak argument look strong…..
Well “The Liverpool way” is the way that I chose to support my team….. Your and my ideas of how to support Liverpool may differ but my support for the club, yes for the club is unwavering…..
You mention Istanbul, and asked if I was there…. physically no, but like every other Reds Supporter we were there in spirit. MR. SUPPORTER YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT… are you not there at every Liverpool game in sprit if not in person?
When my friends said to me (many of them Man Utd and Arsenal supports) Liverpool was done for, my reply was “I don’t know how but we are winning this. I just feel that our names are on the Cup”…. I knew we were winning it….. I’ll bet that you were one of the few whom where about to leave the stadium in the second half when the first goal went in……. So don’t try and tell me I am not a supporter or that I am not behind the team……
You and I just view things differently….. You and your cohorts bang on about supporting the Club. Well supporting the club means just that, the players, manager and the owners…..Yes the owners. They are part of the club too…. Yet you’re quick to slag them off…..
I support the Team. That’s the players…. you think that we are honoured to have Rafa as a manager, were as I think Rafa should feel honoured to be our manager; to be manager of one for the greatest teams in Europe if not the world… The supports don’t owe him, he owes the supports. He has earned our support and respect. It does not automatically come with the job….
So you go support the club in your “Liverpool way” and I will in mine

Chosen one-come on Gerrard has a poor game and its better than lucas best. He has been consistently average he is the most improved because last season he was a total liability! Its more to do with if you believe in Rafa’s 2 defensive midfielder system. If, like me you don’t then lucas never gets in the team unless Mascherano is injured have put the facts up on here many times that with 2 defensive midfielders we have lost more than we have won and its equalled relegation form. With one we have won nearly all our games and had title winning form. He has become an able squad player but he isn’t used like that! Getting a 6/10 every game might be good for your figures but to win things you need the players who are capable of getting 8 or 9/10 in your team. They won’t get it every game but when they do they will make goals or like Carragher stop everything in sight. Place for park in united’s squad not in the first team every week! Would you honestly have him in YOUR first team then? I doubt it very much.

MMM mate isalonso in your opinion a defensive midfield player? i really cant see your point here. how many times last season did he get in the box? lets talk facts. How many goals did he score? how many times did he surge through like gerrard does when hes at his best? ok yes his assist I presume are good and yet our performance last season was incredible. Fact is to me in your terms alonso is a defensive midfield player. Maybe im wrong and need clarity! gerrard has had in my opinion about 5 really good games all season. id say lucas has had more. Im not saying lucas is a first choice but when he comes in he does a good job for us most of the time. people say hes crap i disagree. just like ngog these guys can learn aquinini so far has done nothing other than one assist which pach has done in less first team footy. All im saying is lets put it all into perspective.
No he wouldnt be my first teamchoice for first 11 but when he has played hes done a good job most of the time. A few mistakes like gerrard does and the rest. Hes a good deputy.

He he thanks andy! Chosen one-Alonso isn’t your typical defensive midfielder although yes i would class him as one. Obvious difference is the speed and incisiveness of the passing also he would position himself further forward to receive a pass off Mascherano. That’s what dictates the tempo you play and as we have seen everytime Mascherano and lucas play together they are both players who 9/10 times offload short and square which means Gerrard or whoever is supporting the striker has to come deep pick the ball off them and make the play if he is doing that though the defence has all the time in the world to get organised, the pace is lost out of the attack and plus there is only one striker ahead of him to hit. Last year Alonso picked up the ball Gerrard and the wingers just had to run knowing the ball would be with them in a flash big difference there! Just like the difference when Gerrard picks it up deeper and has Benayoun ahead of him. You have said it all yourself lucas is a good deputy same as what i said, you wouldn’t pick him as a regular rafa does though and we could pick much better teams without him and Kuyt in there. My team against wigan would be Gk-Reina RB-Darby LB-insua CB-Carragher CB-agger CM-Mascherano CM-Gerrard LM-Babel CF-Torres ACM/CF-Benayoun RM-Rodriguez
Don’t like playing Babel LM prefer him on the right but like you not been impressed with Aquilani and yossi has always been awesome off the striker would have him in there every game if possible should be our modern day beardsley and Babel has been in great form deserves to be in there as does Rodriguez after his display at Blackburn.

ok we agree on some issues but maybe disagree on some.
fact-lucas covers more offesnsive areas of the field than alonso………. and im not going to even argue that. yes hes squad player and did well against blackburn,
but ill go as far to say that in the total number of points weve achieved in the league this season as in wins and draws lucas has contributed more than our fantastic gerrard. just my opinion.
not dissing you but even if torress played in alonso position youd call him a defensive midfielder. fact lucas covers more are of the field than alonso. yes need more quality to shoot and use the ball more.
im just trying to praise a guy whos been steady when everyone else was messing up at the begining of the season.
ye we need the gerrards to win games but also the lucas`s not to lose at times.
the lads done well………and i to can talk systems all day but want to finish of my cans of stella lol
last point we had alonso for 5 seasons… how many times did we win the title?
anyway like i said before our weakness is the width not the middle
cheers
