Rafa Benitez would be wise to make long awaited Anfield move for talented Spaniard.

Its a move that has been spoke about for the best part of three years but now more than ever is the right time to be thinking of making David Silva an offer he can’t refuse. Rafa Benitez is hanging on by his fingernails at Anfield and if he does manage to secure Champions League football next season and in doing so remain in his post as Liverpool boss then he should do all he can to scrape together enough cash to snap up the Valencia playmaker.
For to long now the Merseyside outfit has had a problem with creativity in their midfield. To much onus has been placed on Steven Gerrard to make things happen and the pressure on the Liverpool captain is all to obvious. Yossi Benayoun offers another option to link midfield to attack but the Israeli is a player who Rafa Benitez doesn’t appear to value too highly and Silva would be an option in a different league to the former West Ham man.
The arrival of Alberto Aquilani hasn’t really worked and whether that is because he wasn’t the right player or whether he hasn’t been given enough of a chance to prove himself the club still has the same issue to resolve. There is a distinct lack of natural width at the club and those who are out and out wingers have never really done enough to justify their continued employment at the club.
Ryan Babel and Albert Riera are possibly two of the most infuriating players to watch in the Premier League. Both players have undoubted skill and ability but they both consistently make the wrong decisions and flatter to deceive far too often. Neither player has really delivered during their time at Anfield and if Benitez can sell one or indeed both, then he will at least have some more cash to play with.
Valencia will almost certainly have to offload one or all of their attacking trio, David Villa, David Silva and Juan Mata, in order to stave of a financial crisis that threatens to engulf the club. David Silva has already made pleasing noises about a potential move to Liverpool and the fact the club has so many of his international teammates obviously helps matters.
I think the player himself would be very keen on such a move and there is nothing to be lost by registering an interest and if possible making a bid and this summer is the time to do it.

I agree.Sell Gerrard, Carragher, Kuyt, Babel, Riera, Itanje, Aurelio, Degan and Lucas. Bring in Turin, Silva, Capel, Kjaar/Shawcross, Baines/Cissoko and Negredo/Hulk. Sure we’ll concede goals but we’ll score alot more and play exciting football.

David Silva and what good would he do?…. We haven’t even give Aquilani any real chance yet., so If we are still under Rafa in the summer, we buy David Silva. And how long does he sit on the bench with only half chances here and there….
By all means lets scrape together £22m, but instead use it to pay Rafa off

to be fair, im agreeing with the first response to this post.
I thought stevie had turned a corner, and thought his game was gradually getting better, but then when things got a little tough against willing opposition, he would simply hang his head. Where on earth has his passion and drive gone? Where has his love for LFC gone? He doesn’t even look proud to be the captain of our glorious club anymore. . .I really hate this, and if it were to carry on like this untill the end of the season, i wouldn’t ignor offers from real or inter if the money was right.
Im just praying stevie proves everyone wrong sooner rather then later. i know he’s had injury problems, and because of that he’s been in and out of the squad, but we never had this probelm before with him. There was always so much power and drive from him whenever he came back into the squad from something. He could lift a team from tatters, get decisive goals, play that perfect pass and open up the whole game.
Where has our captain gone???
If found, please send back to anfield.

Really poor article, the prospect of silva has long gone, yes Ryan babel will be surpluss come the summer(and no I’m not anti babel I just know when someone isn’t going to make it here). If anything we will look to arda turan come the summer, he unlike silva wants to join us and he’ll cost a fraction of silva yet offer pretty much the same amount of ability.

I am so tired of these pointless articles. They are absolute rubbish and so irrelevant. We should buy this £20 million player or that. Look we don’t have a pot to tiddle in as the money is being sucked out the club and the limited funds we have is generated through player sales or TV money. David Silva you are having a laugh. Try bargain basement shopping of the Portsmouth talent, it’s a more realistic option. Get realistic Maxi is where we are at not bloody Silva!

PL Transfer Targets Summer 2010 Chelsea
I’m pretty sure David Silva will be heading to United, Barca or Chelsea in the Summer, and Villa and Mata will probably go one of those ways as well.
Deco, Belletti, Ferreira and Malouda OUT Definitely
Joe Cole, Ashley Cole, Kalou, Anelka OUT Possibly
DECO: The options; RVDV, Mata, Silva, Hamsik, Dzagoev, Pjanic, Teixeira, Kaka, Alcantara, Danny
Its no secret that Chelsea are chasing Hamsik and that RVDV has been mentioned is the Chelsea/RM jostling of recent times.Question is will Hamsik leave Italy (Inter Offer) and will RVDV give a poor showing here too. Teixeira, Dzagoev and Pjanic are young, but we could certainly use their youth, and with Lampard ageing signing two of them, but only bringing one to the Bridge for now is certainly not out of the question. Mata and Silva are certainly in the mix but there will be a lot of competition for their signatures. Kaka is th dark horse, he almost joined Chelsea in 2005, is a good mate of Carlo and is unhappy and unproductive at RM. Thiago Alcantara would be good, but I’d rather him to come in a few years, maybe a loan to Twente ? Danny would be a good signing but perhaps not quite as good as David Silva or Kaka
MALOUDA: options; di Maria, Ribery, Krasic, Silva, Mata, Urreta, Dzagoev, Pjanic, Teixeira, Alcantara, Ki, Hazard
di Maria and Ribery are the obvious choices, but again there will be war for their signatures. Krasic would be great, but at the moment he seems destined to go elsewhere. Again Silva and Mata are propositions, but Mata emerges as the favourite with his left wing experience. I like Urreta and he would be great alongside Kakuta, di Maria or Ribery, but he’s probably a 2012 signing. Dzagoev, Teixeira and Pjanic are all young, they could spend some time on the left before moving to the centre of midfield. Thiago Alcantara would be good, but I’d rather him to come in a few years, maybe a loan to Twente ? Ki Sung–Yueng is talented and would be a boon for Chelsea merch sales in Korea. Hazard has been very impressive but I think we’d face a stiff fight from AW for him.
BELLETTI and FERREIRA: the options; S Taylor, M Mancienne, N Subotic, D Luiz
Mancienne is the cheapest option, with Taylor estimated at about 9 million and considerably more for Subotic, this may come down to price. D Luiz however is probably the best option.
JOE COLE; Options; Schwiensteiger, Stoch, Assulin
Schweinsteiger is the ideal replacement for Ballack but he could also replace Joe Cole, making Stoch the probable pick, its a shame Maxi went to Liverpool then he would have been ideal. Gai Assulin would be a great get but we are competing with AFC for him.
ASHLEY COLE: Options: Vargas, Dani Alves
Vargas is the only real option I see, i hope we don’t loose Ashley, though Vargas is good. Alves obvioulsy plays on the right and is not a real option to replace Ashley, but could be part of swap deal with Barca for Ashley
ANELKA: Options: Villa, Pato, Aguero, Gomis, Balotelli, Lacina Traore
Villa is expensive and ageing but good, Pato seems destined to one day join Chelsea, Aguero should if he stops mucking us about, Gomis is strong talented and young, as is Balotelli while Lacina Traore at 6′8 would obviously help us maintain our size advantage.
KALOU: Options: Nilmar, Morimoto
Morimoto is a bright young star in Serie A, and would blast our Japanese Merch sales into the stratosphere. Villreal’s cash crisis may see Nilmar move to the Bridge, which would be a good move.
Youth Striker: Lukaku, and potentially Christian Eriksen as well.
GK: Igor Akinfeev is now probably a highly probable signing given Hilario’s recent performances, a fight between him and Cech for the No1 spot would be a good problem to have.

I am an Arsenal supporter but I think your problems started with Benitez ’s transfers last summer where he made some strange decisions. After last season you only needed the right 2 or 3 transfer decisions to be serious contenders this season. Your main issue is that you have been crying out for another world class striker to partner Torres for 2 years now and this should have been the priority. The Johnson for Arbeloa deal was stupid. Not that Johnson is not a slight improvement on Arbeloa but if you are a club that has a budget then this was wasted money for very little improvement to the squad. It would have been an ok deal for Man City as it would have had no bearing on any other critical players required for the squad.
While gerrard is a player that can play almost anywhere i believe he is wasted higher up the pitch as the second striker. His best position is in deeper midfield where he can dictate the game and from here he can time his runs into the box from deeper positions where he will not be picked up so easily. You would naturally think that playing higher up the pitch would get him more goals but I watched our Cesc in this position last year and he was less a goal threat as the defenders always knew where he was. Gerrard and Cesc are similar in that they have good football brains and will be more effective from deeper when they can ghost into the box without being picked up and still have the space to control the game with their passing ability.
Benitez should have kept Alonso, (and made amends with him), and sold Mascherano instead. I think either of the spanish giants would have forked out £35m for him. If you took this and outlayed £40m for David Villa you are only down £5m. Buy Scott Parker for maybe £8m and you have another good defensive midfield option. The Villa and Parker vs Mascherano deals leave you £13m down but selling the likes of Ngog, Voronin and Zhar would get some of that back. You have maybe only spent £7m for the season with these deals. I would keep Babel to try and develop him as he has some raw talent and could yet be a player.
With Villa and Torres up front and the likes of gerrard and Alonso dictating the game your first 11, when fit, could have been one of the best in the world. Even with injuries to say Gerrard and Torres you could still field Alonso and Villa and still be strong. I know the Americans have done you no favours but for not much net outlay you could have really strengthened from last year and for me the fault here is with the manager and his management of who should leave and who should have come in.

for once i agree with donavan. i wouldnt pay more than 15 million for villa. hes 30 for christ sake and even spending 15 million is risking only getting one season out of him. hes whole game is based on pace and being nippy as well as putting it in the net. as soon as he starts slowing down he is half the player. i would rather spend that 40 million you said on 3-4 younger (not necessarily young) top players like sessegnon, kjaer, turan or krasic. you could probably get any 2 of them for under 40 million and will be much more of an investment as well as immediate gain

Anon 10.09-this season in epl, champions league and fa cup Babel has been used for a ridiculous 652 minutes. In those minutes he has got us a goal or assist every 108 minutes. In a team that only averages 1.38 goals per game its a great return on its own now take those minutes and consider the fact that 93 of those minutes came as a late sub in 6 games which were already well and truly lost. 27 in our 10 man backs against the wall game at Everton. 75 in the game at city where the tactics from both side turned the match into a non-event. Take them out would be a goal or assist every 74.5 minutes but i won’t doctor the figures they are fine as they are. Now add in Babel being played out of position, never getting a run in the team and the fact he has averaged less than half an hour per appearance. He gets no opportunity with rafa and when he does he consistently makes things happen. Won us the game at west ham, won us the first leg at unirea, would have won us the lyon game and saved our champions league campaign but for a last minute defensive nightmare, would have saved us in the arsenal game but for an amazing world class save. Only reason he is not world class already is because of rafa and his favourites.

AAAhhh plizzzzzzzz,we need new players in the squad that is the only time Liverpool will move ahead the current players are or rather do not make the cut to play for Liverpool including Gerrard,i aint against Gerrard but i think it is time for him to go some place else or get new players that will help take the load that he carries…Gerrard has had a problem from the time Alonso left, does that warrant him holding his head low….???NO IT DOESNT…
Benitez should remain with the team whether he gives us 4th place or not…we cant blame him for letting the players play shite if they are on the defensive, they already have instructions on how to play ,now if your morale is low its up to the manager and the players to put it right, Benitez never used to big up players nor criticize them when they do wrong nowadays he does it….it is upto the players to get their attitudes right as of now..the blame game needs to stop and if they cant let us go to the europa league…most of the current players have experience and if they cant use, what is the use of havig it…
Benitez should stay sacking him wont brring any change nor willl it solve the problems we have…….

Anyone that thinks that Lucas is improving doesn’t have a clue about football and what is required to be a very good player. The fact that Liverpool have been so poor this year is that there is nothing coming from midfiled. Lucas cannot pass, doesn’t create chances, doesn’t shoot, doesn’t score goals, cannot tackle, cannot head, has no tactical awareness and having him in the team is a waste. Now supporters are waking up to how important Alonso was for the team. Now they realise how Benitez messed up by chasing Barry, then Alonso has a great season, then he goes and Benitez misses Barry and gets a useless, lightweight sicknote who has been another waste of £20m. Benitez and the Yanks have made the club a laughing stock. Gerrard hasn’t performed this season because he realised after the first few games that Liverpool hadn’t improved the team and it was going to be another wasted season. Gerrard has outperformed everyone for years and now beacuse his form has dipped we can see that Liverpool are just a bunch of lightweights. Even if Benitez was given £200m he wouldnt get the correct players and he and the Yanks should do the honorable thing and go.

rafa has to go , not really a question any more of wether he’s good or bad , simply he’s lost the players ( and majority of us supporters ) backing ! does anyone (rafa believers or knockers ) disagree ?
2 options only
1 . change the players ( we ain’t gonna get top four people so who’s gunna come to us with no champions league football and if all our challengers perform no europa either )
2.change the manager . ok if he refuses to fall on his sword it’ll cost supposedly 20 mil but then same problem as with players who’s gunna want to come here ? with the car crash of ownership we’ve got .
option 2 is my personal choice , look at chelsea’ s turn about in performance when gus came , ok not straight away (these multi million players egos take some soothing) , but no squad changes just different approach with them .

Matty K
Liverpool are in need of a more attacking formation & tactics more than any player. Watch the movement of Ass-enal off the ball with through balls consistently hitting there man while we pass side & backwards to a flat player- no bodies in motion make it so predictable. Everyone claims a need for strikers- yes Torres needs more help but the service he recieves is the real prob- Stevie G is down on enthusiasm & has lost that step of pace that used to break him away from defenders(maybe still injured) but desire is also lacking. Lucas is slow & lacks vision & execution to be productive.Carra is caught out of position consistently & looks uncomfortable due to a struggle to keep up with the quicker players while Insua- dont know if he is up to it although does the odd good play. Personally think Babbel has not had a fair go since day 1 with limited game time & with a bit more confidence has potential to be a game breaker (needs to work on his vision when creating chances -often shreds the defence then looks unsure where to go or to see the open man). Great to keep being linked to big names but A- Can we afford them??
B- Lets clean out deadwood & add the $$$
C-Whats the use of these great attacking players
if we dont play a more positive attacking game.
To conclude my rant i say sell Lucas , Kuyt , Insua ,Carra (protest all you like my opinion) & again i feel Stevie G is almost in this group – an all time favourite but there comes a time & if its an injury or hes just unhappy playing under a certain manager would love him to stay & come back to form -if not there 30+mill to help our cause. By the way – how much do we get for Rafa -add him to players waving goodbye- i dont like watching his style of football & the players do not seem to enjoy being part of it -in fact put him at the top of the chopping block NOW.

Redrum-Lmao comment of the week award to that man! Mattyk-agree with 90% of your post Gerrard is disillusioned he is used to being able to drag liverpool up by the scruff of the neck when rafa plays the system he does and surrounds him with workhorses leaves quality attacking options on the bench then he knows deep down we are in trouble before the game kicks off. Like we do when we see the team sheet. Look at giggs for united he has had dips in form where people thought his time was up, next minute he was the player of the season in title winning sides. Fans are disillusioned with the regime, so are the players. Gerrard is in no way past it. I still think the useless wing back system rafa has introduced this year has made all our centre backs look poor too, left them trying to cover full back areas and causing them to be totally exposed. Big clear out is needed Aurelio, Kuyt, degen, Riera, Plessis, el zhar…get in turan, baines, Jovanovic and Koman. First team of Gk-Reina RB-johnson LB-baines CB-Carragher CB-agger CM-Mascherano CM-Gerrard LM-turan CF-Torres ACM/CF-Benayoun
RM-Babel
Awesome first team with everyone in their best positions and pace in abundance. Back up team of Gk-cavalieri RB-Darby LB-insua CB-skrtel CB-Kyrgiakos CM-lucas CM-Aquilani LM-Koman CF-Jovanovic CF-Nemeth RM-Rodriguez
Rest of squad Gulacsi, kelly, Mavinga, san jose, ayala, spearing, amoo, pacheco, Eccleston. More manageable squad size would increase team spirit and competition for places rather than just giving players scraps. Still plenty of experience in reserve but not too much to take away every opportunity. Give the carling cup to the youngsters they are quality show them a level of faith and they will blossom.

very knowledgeble.
——————
this would never happen but personally i would like to see:
sell
mascherano – 25 mill (good player but if you can get 25 million for a DM you should take it)
kuyt – 8 mill
riera – 6 mill
skrtel – 5 mill
lucas – 5 mill
insua – 3 mill
babel – 10 mill
el zhar – 2 mill
total 64 mill
buy
arda turan – 20 mill
kjaer – 11 mill
nzogbia – 10 mill
kalanic – 10 mill (unlikely if benitez in charge!)
mesut ozil – 15 mill
then our team would look like this (gerrad and aquilani CM NOT DM!!) :
—————-reina
johnson–kjaer–agger—nzogbia
———–gerrard-aqualani
benayoun——ozil————-arda
——————torres
subs: cavilleri, kyrgiakos, maxi, carragher, pacheco, kalanic, kelly

“Watch the movement of Ass-enal off the ball with through balls consistently hitting there man while we pass side & backwards to a flat player- no bodies in motion make it so predictable.”
Pay attention people. This has to be the most astute observation of our game and style of play ever….. Been saying this for sometime not, but never so well and certainly not the “Liverpool are in need of a more attacking formation & tactics more than any player” bit.
Excellent post Matty K

Nring in some english re-inforcements. liverpool are slowly losing there identity. how many of the foreign imports actually no about the kop and the tradition? bring in shawcross on the cheap befor hes price tag influctuates, bring in joe cole on a free with the promise of regular football, bring back warnock or riise( foreign i know but is the best left back weve had in the last decade, and looks world class compared to our recent buys). james milner is worth a large fee as he will prove to be world class and could be the perfect long term successor to gerrard. the lad jobi mcenuff looks pretty decent from reading.
Reina
johnson Carrahger/skrtel agger/shawcross warnock/riise
mcenuff milner mascherano joe cole
Gerrard
Torres

A lot of people have been saying sell Carragher and Gerrard, But where I think you would lose most in doing this a side from the obvious is that there are no local lads there to replace them…. Lad they know what things mean to the LFC supporters and have a real and deep passion for that shirt, and crest…. That I feel is what makes both Gerrard and Carragher so important to the club…..

why would silva or villa make such a herendous choice to move to us
these guys have brains ya no!
and the named players we speak about would walk into real, barca, man utd , chelsea, inter, ac,juve
do i need to go on !
some people think all liverpool have to do is click there fingers and the stars will just come !
we are not the club we where and the whole world knows it
these are bad times peeps
and i fear under rafa and the yankee doodle dans it may become worse
for instance in the window when we despratly needed a striker and still do ! rafa signed maxi and err no one !
when you have to sell to buy its gonna be hard to build a squad theres no consistancy
under rafa the only consistant thing we can guarentee is that lucas and kuyt will play every week
as the other so called leser teams build squads as good if not better than our own you have to feel worried about next season
spurs, villa, man city can all compete with us now and with arsnel , chelsea, and the scum fast pulling away and dont forget there all gonna spend in the summer i feel we may find it hard to compete
also its world cup year and beleve me players prices will go through the roof again i worry can we afford such sums ov money
i could go on 4evabut i fear rafa will stay and the team will pay for irt

The picture tells you everything, It looks like Rafa is just asking Kuyt to pass to the Wigan player which has chance to score so that he would be sacked much earlier and goes back to his dream club with a handsome payoff of 15m pound
