Carlo Ancelotti set to snap up big money teenager to add to his Stamford Bridge squad.
Chelsea To Beat Manchester City To Signing Of Santos Starlet Neymar – Report
Chelsea are reportedly set to stun Manchester City by beating the Citizens to the signature of Santos’ teenage sensation Neymar.
According to the News of the World, the 18-year-old was expected to be part of the deal that saw Robinho move back to Brazil.
However, negotiations are on the verge of collapsing which could allow Chelsea to bag the sought-after youngster for £30 million.
Manchester City reportedly secured a first option clause on Neymar when Robinho joined Santos earlier this season, as part of a six-month loan deal.
The report claims though that the Brazilian side are struggling to pay Robinho’s wages, meaning any deal could break down. Such an outcome would lead the former Real Madrid man returning to Eastlands and handing Chelsea the opportunity to land Neymar.
Yet Carlo Ancelotti’s men are expected to face stiff competition to sign the young Brazilian, in particular from Real Madrid. The tabloid report claims that los Blancos believe they already have a pre-contract agreement in place, something Santos deny.
To complicate matters further, Neymar’s economic rights are believed to be owned by Santos and Sonda, a South American management group.
Meanwhile, the player’s representatives have been sending out mixed messages over the player’s future.
Neymar’s agent Wagner Ribeiro insisted recently that while Santos do not want to sell one of their prized assets, they are expecting big offers for him this summer. (Goal.com)
So there you have it. Chelsea clearly like what they have seen of 18 year old striking sensation Neymar because forking out £30m for a teenager could well be a huge risk but clearly one Roman Abramovich is willing to take. Perhaps the rather ageing striking options the club currently depend on are a mitigating factor in this potential outlay or perhaps the Stamford Bridge side want to prove a point to Manchester City by showing just how much cash they have.
Carlo Ancelotti has pretty much done a great job in his first season at the west London club but may feel this summer is his chance to put his own stamp on the Chelsea squad after all last summer the Italian didn’t bring in any big name signings and may feel the club needs a big name or two to challenge for the Champions League.
Neymar has been scoring freely in Brazil for Santos but as we all know, the success rate of Brazilians coming to England can be very hit and miss. The teenager has been linked with a move to a succession of big European outfits but this source suggest that a move to the Blues is all but a done deal, we shall see.
