American megastar reveals love for Emirates side.
Jay-Z has revealed he may be interested in investing some of his estimated $500million (£333m) fortune in Arsenal.
The American rapper, married to fellow superstar Beyonce, insisted he fell Crazy in Love with the Gunners during ex-Emirates favourite Thierry Henry’s spell in North London, and has remained a fan ever since.
The multiple Grammy winner – real name Shawn Carter – already part-owns NBA side New Jersey Nets and revealed his Blueprint for investment opportunities when he said: ‘I don’t know a lot about the business of soccer, but in the future if the right opportunity presented itself, then who knows? I am a businessman, and I will always look at an opportunity, and if it feels right, great.’
Jay-Z made his fortune after selling over 40million records worldwide, coupled with other business interests that include several record labels, nightclubs and clothing line Rocawear.
But now it seems hip hop’s biggest name is in an Emirates State of Mind, which started ‘when Thierry Henry was at the club. I just thought he was an amazing player. Ever since then I have been a big fan of the club and still today you play the beautiful football that Thierry did. I think he had a real long term-effect on the team.’
He added: ‘I don’t know if there are any Jay-Z fans in the current team but if there are they would be more than welcome to come to my next concert when I am over in London. They can come and see me do my work, and then I will come and see them do their work.’
It seems that owning an English football club may be the latest fashion accessory for America’s flash rappers – just last week P Diddy was linked with a move for Crystal Palace. A bid never materialised, however, perhaps because the American realised It’s a Hard Knock Life down in a Championship relegation battle. (Daily Mail)
Arsenal have no financial worries to speak of, unlike some of their Premier League rivals, but nonetheless I am sure they would welcome investment from any multi-millionaires so why not from a world famous rapper? Jay-Z is the latest American celebrity to take an interest in the Beautiful Game and whilst P Diddy’s interest in struggling Championship side Crystal Palace makes little or no sense, it could well be a wise move all round for Beyonce’s husband to consider investing some of his fortune in the Emirates outfit.
It seems that Jay-Z has been a relatively long term fan and I am sure a great many of the club’s players may take him up on his offer of free tickets to his next London concert and perhaps the club’s owners will consider coming along as well to test the water on a potential investment opportunity.
