Arsene Wenger continues to chase potential Emirates star in the making.
Arsenal are reportedly closing in on Belgian international Eden Hazard.
Arsene Wenger is known to be an admirer of the 19-year-old, and the Arsenal boss has reportedly made contact with the Lille midfielder via a personal call.
The report in the French media has striking comparisons to when Wenger contacted Thomas Vermaelen, then at Ajax. Two weeks later, the Belgian centre back signed for the Gunners.
Hazard has constantly impressed at the Ligue 1 side since breaking into the Lille first team back in 2007, and the teenager was rewarded for his efforts earlier in the current campaign when signing a new contract with LOSC.
A string of european clubs are queueing up to take him away from Stadium Lille-Metropole, with Barcelona, AC Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Inter all thought to be tracking the diminutive playmaker.
Liverpool are another side who have been heavily linked with Hazard, who built on his reputation with two fine displays against the Reds in the Europa League last 16. He was on the scoresheet in the first leg of that tie.
It’s Arsenal who appear best positioned to bring Hazard to England though, with the Gunners sending scouts to watch Hazard in a Belgian international recently.
Wenger was obviously impressed, following up the scouting reports with the aforementioned phone call, and could make a summer move when the transfer window re-opens. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
The net appears to be closing on Lille starlet Eden Hazard (great name by the way) and Arsene Wenger seems to want bring the young Belgian to the Emirates this summer and it would take a brave man to bet against such a deal not happening.
Arsenal obviously have a habit of snapping up youngsters at a young age and taking them onwards and upwards and making them into the finished article and even though the Ligue 1 side have slapped a pretty hefty valuation on their prized asset the north London side may well have seen enough to be willing to stump up the cash.
The 19 year old attacking midfielder has excellent touch and has shown a great deal of maturity at Lille this season and has displayed his talents on the bigger stage during Lille’s Europa League run where Hazard has performed very well indeed and netted four goals in the process. Another factor that could well influence the chances of Eden joining Arsenal is the fact that the Belgian international will have fellow countryman and national team captain Thomas Vermaelen at the club.
Arsenal may well have some of the best young talents around already at the Emirates but Eden can certainly add something to the mix and is already showing the talent to suggest that if he were purchased he would have a pretty good shot of being part of the first team squad next term and whilst the youngster looks a little lightweight on the ball he has more strength than it appears and could well hack it in the Premier League.
The Gunners also have the financial muscle to be able to afford such a move and fight off any other interested parties for his signature so I think this potential transfer is one well worth keeping your eye on this coming summer.
