Chelsea overcame a poor Aston Villa side to return to the top of the Premier League at least until Man United take on Bolton. Frank Lampard continued his hot run in front of goal by scoring the first at Stamford Bridge only to see John Carew, also in good goalscoring form, level for the top four chasing outfit.
Chelsea were then awarded an obvious penalty when Yuri Zhirkov was felled in the box and Frank Lampard put away the spot kick. Florent Malouda made sure of the win mid way through the second half. Lampard then completed his hat-trick with another spot kick after Stephen Warnock had clumsily clipped Zhirkov.
Florent Malouda then tucked away his second and Chelsea’s fifth as the Stamford Bridge outfit took complete control over their opponents. Salomon Kalou then added a sixth to further anger Martin O’Neill. Frank Lampard then added his fourth.
Carlo Ancelotti will be pleased with the Blues performance and will be hoping to continue to pressure on fellow title chasers Manchester United and Arsenal.
