Roma pulled off a fantastic win over league leaders Inter Milan at the Stadio Olimpico thanks to a winner from Luca Toni. In a predictably tight game Daniele De Rossi gave the home side the lead only for Diego Milito to net a leveler but veteran Toni popped up with the winner in a game that included an incredibly ten yellow cards.
Claude Puel led his Olympique Lyonnais side to victory against rock bottom Grenoble to keep up their title push in what has thus far been an incredible race for top spot.
Gianfranco Zola’s Upton Park tenure hangs be a thread as this West Ham side slipped to another defeat. Stoke City were the better team and deserved the win that came courtesy of a fine goal from Ricardo Fuller. The win takes the Britannia Stadium side into the top half of the table and leaves the Hammers on level points with third from bottom Hull City, who have a game in hand over the east London side.
Tottenham kept up their push for a Champions League spot with this easy win over Portsmouth at White Hart Lane. Gareth Bale found Peter Crouch after a superb run and cross which the England man confidently stroked into the back of the net.
Niko Kranjcar added a second against his former club after something of a goal mouth scramble. Harry Redknapp’s side then continued to dominate against their doomed opponents and could well have added more.
The win puts the north London side five points clear of their nearest rivals for that fourth spot.
Arsenal appeared to be about to secure three valuable points against Birmingham at St Andrews but a late Kevin Phillips goal leveled the game and left the Gunners ruing what might have been. Further goals from by Kenny Miller and a brace from Steven Naismith clinched an easy win for Walter Smith’s side.
The win puts Rangers 13 points clear with a game in hand over nearest challengers Celtic.
