St Andrews’s boss will make concerted effort to seal permanent move for England international this summer.
Alex McLeish very keen indeed to secure England international keeper Joe Hart on a permanent basis summer. With the 22 year old goalie seemingly surplus to requirements at Eastlands, Birmingham City are looking to at least continue to loan Hart out for another season.
The Birmingham City boss has stated
“City are not going to make any decisions regarding Joe until the summer. They have confirmed that to us now.
“We would like to sign Joe for another season. The keeping role is massively important and that’s why I’d like to get City’s nod of approval.
“That would help us in terms of us knowing what we are doing but there will be no news until the summer.” (Sky Sports)
Such is the importance to the St Andrews’ outfit of having such a secure pair of hands behind their back four that they are reportedly willing to make serious bids to snap up the promising keeper on a permanent basis. Manchester City are unlikely to accept anything less than £8m for a player who is deemed the best of his generation in England.
Fabio Capello is likely to pick the former Shrewsbury Town man in his World Cup squad and he could indeed turn out to be the Italian’s first choice starter for the tournament and this could further increase the club’s valuation of the player.
Even though Hart is still very young in goalkeeping terms he will also be keen to not be stuck on the bench and given that a player as good as Shay Given stands in the way of him and first team football it would seem a safe bet that if he wants to continue playing regular first team football then to do so he must leave Manchester City.
After all look what happened to Given’s previous understudy at Newcastle United. Steve Harper spent the best part of 12 years waiting for his chance at St James’ Park and Hart will be keen to avoid such a fate at Eastlands.
