Rafa Benitez alerted to potential Anfield addition as Wigan man is told he is allowed to leave.
Liverpool are reportedly on high alert after learning that Wigan Athletic are set to allow Charles N’Zogbia to leave the club in the summer. Roberto Martinez has been quoted as saying that he is willing to offload the 23 year old Frenchman in the summer just as long as he gets a good price for the Latics man.
Rafa Benitez is known to be an admirer of the former Newcastle United flair player and the adaptable left sided player could well be an intelligent use of the resources available for the Anfield boss. With Albert Riera set to leave just as soon as someone offers a decent sum of money for the Spaniard and questions about Ryan Babel’s consistency still left unanswered a move for N’Zogbia could help resolve the issue of lack of natural width in the Liverpool lineup.
After five up and down years at St James’ Park Wigan snapped up the former Le Havre man for £6m and are expecting a fee well in excess of that if they are to consider selling one of their most prized assets. It would appear that either the player has made it clear he sees himself in need of a move up the footballing ladder or perhaps the DW Stadium outfit needs funds to re-invest in the Latics squad.
Obviously such a move would become even more likely should Wigan Athletic drop to the Championship but a decent run of form has seen the club pull away from the relegation zone but are still by no means safe. N’Zogbia’s speed, flair and intelligent use of possession make him the type of player that thrills the fans but he can also be extremely frustrating, flitting in and out of games and at times can be seen as something of a luxury player.
If Rafa Benitez can get some spending money from the club’s American owners then he may well attempt to make a move for the former French Under 21 international come the summer.
