Rafa looks to bring talented Lazio full back to Anfield.
Rafa Benitez wants Lazio’s in form full back Aleksandar Kolarov and plans to make a renewed effort to sign the 25 year old before the Serbian takes part in the forthcoming World Cup Finals in South Africa.
Reports in Italy suggest that the Anfield boss is looking to snap up the Belgrade born left back on the cheap as the Rome club look to balance the books after what has thus far been a shocking season in Serie A. Kolarov is reportedly certain to leave the club as the Stadio Olimipico outfit looks to raise funds from player sales to counter alarming levels of debt borne of the big spending years the club went through following their domestic title triumph in 2000.
Liverpool have a number of options to fill the left back role in their current squad but none of whom have successfully made the role their own. Youngster Emiliano Insua has taken the role for the lions share of this term but is by no means the finished article and its no surprise that Benitez is looking to snap up competitors for the position.
Rafa did of course snap up a Serie A left back two summers ago, Andreas Dossena, but the Italian failed to live up to expectations and was sold to Napoli in January. Kolarov has been one of the few success stories to come out of Lazio’s dismal season which currently sees Edoardo Reja’s side perilously close to the drop zone in 17th place.
