Anfield boss to make concerted push to bring in Ibrahim Afellay.
Rafa Benitez has reportedly turned his attentions to signing PSV Eindhoven attacking midfielder Ibrahim Afellay. The 24 year old Dutch international has been a mainstay at the Eredivisie side for almost seven years and is apparently ready to make a move to the Premier League.
Having won the domestic title four times with PSV Afellay has seen his side capitulate to fourth spot last term and find themselves some six points adrift of leaders FC Twente this term leaving the adaptable midfielder looking to leave the Phillips Stadion.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has previously trailed the talented flair player but now the Anfield manager is coming calling hoping that he can persuade the Dutchman to join countrymen Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel on Merseyside.
Afellay is the type of players to get Liverpool fans on the edge of their seats. With a great burst of pace and an intelligent footballing brain the Utrecht born talent has an eye for goal and the ability to create something out of nothing. The type of player that Benitez could well do with adding to his armoury.
The only issue could be the £12m valuation placed on the player, a sum that Benitez will struggle to find unless new owners coming to the club give him a decent transfer warchest this summer. Rafa could instead opt to offload Albert Riera to help cover any fee needed.
