Anfield boss looks to bring in Manchester United target.
Liverpool will attempt to snap up Bolton’s highly rated centre back Gary Cahill this summer. With Rafa Benitez looking to invest in his faltering Anfield squad the moment the season comes to a close, and with the club set for new owners, the Spaniard hopes to make a sizable bid to capture Reebok Stadium’s prized asset.
24 year old Cahill has seen his stock rise and interest grow in his services since his move from Aston Villa and the Sheffield born centre back has also found himself in the England national team reckoning due to consistent performances at the heart of the Trotters back line.
Manchester United have also shown an interest in Gary Cahill and previous Wanderers boss Gary Megson placed a rather overinflated £30m price tag on the player. Benitez is apparently hoping that he can win the race for the defender by making a bid of around £12m this summer, a bid that may persuade Bolton to cash in.
The Liverpool boss has been looking for further defensive signings since last summer but could only afford to bring in Greek international Sotiros Kyrgiakos to solidify his back four.
