Martin O’Neill wants in form England man to form partnership with Gabby Agbonlahor.
Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill has placed West Ham forward Carlton Cole at the top of his summer wish list. The Villa Park boss is apparently resigned to losing John Carew who seems set to move to Fulham and has earmarked England international Cole as an ideal replacement for the outgoing Norwegian.
The 26 year old former Chelsea man has had a terrific season even though he has found himself out for spells injured and seen his Hammers side struggle to keep their heads above the relegation zone. A number of sides have been linked with a move for the powerful forward but Aston Villa hope they can sneak in and capture £12m rated Cole.
With Gabriel Agbonlahor leading the line at the midlands outfit O’Neill had hoped that veteran Emile Heskey would serve as a perfect foil to form a successful strike partnership but the former Liverpool man has managed just five Premier League goals in 42 appearances.
Carlton Cole may be persuaded to make such a move, especially if Aston Villa secure European football for next term.
