Emirates boss wants Everton teenager to become a Gunner.
Everton are creeping closer to tying Jack Rodwell to a lucrative new deal as they try to secure the player’s immediate future, but Arsenal have emerged as the latest in a line of leading clubs pursuing the teenager.
Rodwell, who turned 19 last week, signed a five-year contract with Everton in February last year, but the clamour for his signature has been so great that the Merseyside club are eager to improve his terms in the hope of deterring the advances of the Barclays Premier League’s big hitters.
Arsenal are understood to have joined Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City in the hunt to sign Rodwell, who is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in English football, and have been closely monitoring his situation. (Times Online)
Arsene Wenger is apparently ready to freshen things up at the Emirates and will be healthily backed by the club’s money men as the north London side tries to bring an end to a lengthy spell without silverware and with that in mind it is not a great surprising that Arsenal are chasing Jack Rodwell.
The 19 year old is being chased by all and sundry and David Moyes will do well to get the youngster to put pen to paper on a new deal because he is sure to have his head turned by attention from the likes of Man United, Chelsea and Arsenal. The promising midfielder has shown maturity beyond his years this term and has figured in 30+ games and shown his ability to prove himself in the Premier League even as a teenager.
Great things are expected from Rodwell and he seems close to a full England cap and one wonders what would happen if a solid bid came in for the £18m rated Southport born lad and Arsene Wenger may see him as a good foil for Cesc Fabregas in the centre of the Gunners midfield but will face one hell of a battle to snap him up with Sir Alex Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti also circling like vultures.
