Eastlands man targeted by Villa Park boss looking to improve strength in depth.
Aston Villa are reportedly considering a cut price bid for Manchester City winger Martin Petrov. Martin O’Neill is looking to add more strength in depth this summer and is interested in bringing in the 31 year old Bulgarian.
The Villa Park outfit could snap up the former Atletico Madrid man for as little as £5m as Roberto Mancini looks to trim his ever expanding squad. Petrov is apparently keen to remain in England if indeed he is offloaded by the Eastlands outfit and may feel that a move to the midlands club would be a wise one.
Some may take O’Neill’s interest in the left winger as a sign that Ashley Young may be on his way out but this could be well wide of the mark and more a sign of the club’s attempts to bring more quality to their relatively small squad.
Knee injuries have plagued the intelligent wingers time in England but there is no doubt that Petrov still has the quality to perform at the highest level for a few seasons yet.
