Anfield boss hopes to spring major summer transfer coup.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez will launch an ambitious move to bring Real Madrid’s Dutch playmaker Rafael Van der Vaart to Anfield this summer. The Anfield manager hopes to persuade any potential new owner to bankroll big additions to his distinctly average Merseyside squad and will attempt to lure the former Ajax and Hamburg man with the promise of a guaranteed starting role.
Manuel Pellegrini promised Van der Vaart that he would be a key part of his Bernabeu plans but has since found himself far too often coming off the bench rather than being a regular first team starter. The 27 year old has started just 17 games in all competitions this season and found himself named in just 3 of 8 Champions League fixtures.
Real Madrid are ready to conduct a summer clearout and Van der Vaart is set to be one of many set for a departure from the Spanish giants and Benitez feels he could secure his services for a fee in the region of £12m talented attacking midfielder.
