Arsene Wenger interested in bringing in Upton Park starlet to the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger is looking to make a summer bid for West Ham United’s highly rated young centre back James Tomkins. The England Under 21 star is much admired by Hammes boss Gianfranco Zola but he may find it hard to prevent interest in one of his prized assets from turning the youngsters head.
Arsenal are looking for an injection of youth in their aging back line and the Gunners boss is also looking to up his quota of ‘homegrown’ players ahead of the new Premier League regulations coming in next season. Tomkins has had occasional lapses of concentration during his three seasons in the Upton Park first team but clearly he has shown a great deal of potential that the Emirates manager feels he could expand upon.
The 21 year old Basildon born defender can also play at right back but has shown greatest promise alongside Matthew Upson at the heart of the West Ham defence. Arsenal could well be set to offload William Gallas, who is still trying to secure a two year deal, as well as veteran’s Sol Campbell and Mikel Silvestre and as such could well need to bring in new additions to beef up their back four.
