Curtis Davies, Nigel Reo-Coker, Nicky Shorey, Steve Sidwell, Luke Young and Habib Beye were informed this week that the club are ready to listen to offers for them, with the Villa boss needing to sell to raise most of his transfer funds for this summer.

All six found themselves on the periphery last season with O’Neill largely opting to stick with the same side.

The Villa manager admitted he could understand why the players would be disgruntled, but maintains they must look at their own performances before pointing the finger at him.

“We will look at things,” he said. “Of course, there will be players here whose future, in terms of playing regularly in the side, might lie elsewhere. I think that’s natural.

“Players, despite maybe a number of reassurances from a manager, will view the number of times they’ve played this season and say ‘listen, I could go and play elsewhere’. (Express and Star)

Clearly Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill is looking to rid his squad of some players he deems ‘surplus to requirements’ and this half dozen only managed 42 Premier League starts between them last season and have all been overtaken for their positions by other players in the past season or two and even though they may well have something to offer the club O’Neill is probably keen to sell some of his large squad to help bring in additions he feels can propel the midlands side back into the top four race for next season.

The six players in question did not arrive at the club cheaply and cost a combined total of £25.5m and would struggle to net that total if sold this summer, which probably says it all really.

Are there any of these half dozen that the fans think really should be kept at all costs or are they are all expendable?
