Celtic eye mega deal for Sol

Sol Campbell is a shock target for Scottish giants Celtic.
The Parkhead board is willing to sanction a lucrative wage deal for Arsenal and former England centre-half Campbell, 35, who is a free agent.

Celtic caretaker-boss Neil Lennon insists the side badly lacks leaders and seasoned players.

Campbell – 211 games for Arsenal and 73 England caps – fits the bill.

But the Gunners hero has just completed a short-term second stint at the Emirates and has been offered the chance of a fresh one-year deal.

Manager Arsene Wenger is desperate to keep Campbell on the books because fellow central defender William Gallas is expected to depart soon as his contract has expired. (The Sun)

One can understand the wisdom in Lennon looking to bring the 35 year old Arsenal man to Parkhead and if he offers a deal that lasts more than just one season then the veteran centre back may well elect to take it. The former Tottenham and Portsmouth man did a good job on his Gunners return and proved no slouch even at his advanced age.

There is no doubt that he could be a very accomplished figure in the SPL and could well help pass on a few tricks of the trade to some of Celtic’s less experienced defenders. Neil Lennon hopes to be given the Bhoys job on a full time basis but knows that cash, as always, will be hard to come by and a move for the free agent makes good financial sense.
