Villa Park boss willing to splash the cash to nab Upton Park man.
Aston Villa are ready to put in a £15m bid for West Ham forward Carlton Cole this summer. Martin O’Neill is looking for a strike partner for Gabriel Agbonlahor and has earmarked the Upton Park man as an ideal signing and hopes that he can beat a number of other interested parties to the signing of the England international.
The 26 year old Croydon born former Chelsea man had a very average season long loan at Villa Park in 2004/05 but has become a far improved player since then and has put in two solid seasons at West Ham that have seen him win a place in the England set-up, albeit not a seat on the World Cup plane.
There is a good chance that Norwegian international John Carew will leave the club this summer, perhaps for a move to Fulham and Emile Heskey has not impressed since his move to the club in January 2009. West Ham may well consider taking such a large bid for Carlton Cole but a lot may depend on whether the incoming Upton Park manager wishes to allow a prized possession leave the club.
