With West Ham reportedly set to name Avram Grant as their new boss reports are surfacing that the former Portsmouth boss will name Liverpool’s Yossi Benayoun as his first signing. The Israeli international has struggled to secure a regular run in the Anfield first team and after three seasons of trying to prove himself to Rafa Benitez would more than likely accept a move back to Upton Park.
The 30 year old enjoyed two good seasons as a Hammer, helping the east London club to an FA Cup Final and aiding their dramatic escape from relegation the following year. The adaptable attacking midfielder then made a big move to Liverpool and even though the supporters have elevated Benayoun to cult status he still hasn’t convinced Benitez of his worth despite continually impressing during a three season spell which has seen him net 28 times and put in wholehearted skillful performances.
The Upton Park side believe they could snap up the former Racing Santander man for around £8m and that the Merseyside club will gladly accept such a move so as to reinvest the money in new additions as the cash strapped club looks for alternative ways to fund moves in the transfer market.
