Arsene wants to bring Spanish international to the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger has earmarked Villarreal keeper Diego Lopez as a potential target as the Arsenal boss looks to resolve his goalkeeping problems. Having seen both Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski make several high profile blunders last term the Gunners boss is looking to bring in a new goalie this summer and is reportedly a big admirer of the 28 year old Spaniard.
For three seasons Lopez has greatly impressed at over performing minnows Villarreal and has come a long way since he was released by Real Madrid in 2007. The giant goalie has been linked with moves to many of Europe’s elite and only just missed out on Vicente del Bosque’s World Cup squad.
Arsenal may attempt to lure Villarreal into selling by offering Manuel Almunia as part of any deal for the £9m keeper. The north London club have two hot prospects coming through the ranks with both Vito Mannone and Polish international Wojciech Szczesny but appear to need a safe pair of hands in the short term and a move for Lopez would be a wise one.
