Chelsea and Arsenal are weighing up a summer bid for Barcelona’s exciting teenage playmaker Gai Assulin.
The Israeli is struggling for first team opportunities with the Catalan giants, and is available on a free transfer.
The attacking midfielder has been likened in some quarters to a young Lionel Messi, and the Spanish newspaper Sport are reporting he could me making a move to England.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has signed players from the Barcelona youth team before, including Fran Merida and Cesc Fabregas.
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is expected to bring in a host of young players into the first team squad next season.
Even though the Blues won the Premier League and FA Cup, it is believed they will need to strengthen their squad in order to win the Champions League. (Daily Mail)
I know what you thinking “Why is Wenger trying to sign another youngster?”. Well by all accounts Israeli international Gai Assulin is a quality player in the making and could well break into the first team picture next term. Chelsea are also considering making a move but one would imagine the young playmaker would be more tempted by a move to the Emirates knowing that the Gunners boss is more likely to trust to youth.
Some have unwisely drawn parallels between Assulin and Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas, a comparison that makes no sense as the playing style of the two are quite different and indeed the Spanish international had already achieved a great deal more than the Barca man at the same age.
