Rafa looks to bring long term target to Anfield.
Rafa Benitez is reportedly lining up a move for Atletico Madrid winger Simao as he looks to add more natural width to his Liverpool line up. The Portuguese international has had three up and down seasons at the La Liga club and is reportedly keen to leave the club after they only managed a ninth placed finish last season.
Benitez is known to be a fan of the former Benfica hero and has apparently made moves to bring the right winger to the club in the past and believes that he may well be able to lure the speedy intelligent wide man to the Premier League this summer.
Even though Simao helped his Spanish side to the Europa League title he is apparently not happy with the way the club has fallen way down the pecking order in domestic football. After two successive fourth placed finishes Madrid’s ‘other’ club had a nightmare in La Liga last term and only a good run of form in the final months prevented a relegation battle as Quique Flores side finished a massive 52 points behind champions Barcelona.
The Merseyside club have spent the best part of two seasons using Dirk Kuyt on the right hand side of the midfield but Rafa is keen on bringing in out and out wingers to the club and believes that Simao is a player he can afford to sign even with his extremely restricted budget.
