Hollywood film star Tom Cruise reckons David Beckham will play in the 2014 World Cup for England, in spite of the fact he will be almost 40.
Beckham, 35, has been ruled out of this year’s tournament with an Achilles tendon injury but Cruise is backing the midfielder to pull off a Mission Impossible to play in Brazil in four years.
The pair became good friends after Beckham signed for Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007 and Cruise told The Sun: “I wish he was playing in the World Cup this year but he will be back for the next one you know.” (BBC Sport)

Now I have nothing against Tom Cruise per se but clearly his comments belie a basic knowledge of the game. I feel fairly confident that David Beckham will NOT be at the 2014 World Cup. Mainly because even at age 35 he would barely have scrapped into the reckoning and in four years time, once he has seen out his mega contract at LA Galaxy, I fully expect him to be very successful Hollywood actor, albeit one who can’t act.
