This source reckons the Emirates side are on the verge of sealing Joe Cole deal.
Joe Cole could be on the verge of making a shock move from Chelsea to Arsenal on a free transfer after rumours emerged today he has signed a three-year contract at the Emirates Stadium.
According to reports, Cole’s representatives met up with Arsenal officials yesterday to thrash out the terms of the deal while the midfield playmaker was being called up to England’s World Cup squad by Fabio Capello.
Barring any complications in the process the transfer is expected to be finalised next week, with a view to announcing the move before the tournament in South Africa begins in ten days’ time.
Cole’s signing also fits in with the Arsene Wenger transfer philosophy in that the England international would represent a shrewd bit of business.
The 28-year-old is out of contract at Chelsea and would be available on a free transfer.
And while his wage demands may have presented a stumbling block – given the Blues are reluctant to meet his expectations – Wenger is said to be more willing to offer larger contracts to players in a bid to build a title-winning team.
Former West Ham United star Cole is also believed to be keen to stay in London, as partner Carly Zucker has recently given birth to a son and is reluctant to relocate. (The Metro)
So there you have it. Joe Cole wanted a deal worth £100k a week and if this source is correct and that Wenger is closing in on the England man then it will set the north London club back around £15m on a three year deal, but as there would be no transfer fee then that could still be considered a decent bit of business.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp had stated a couple of days ago that he felt that the former West Ham man had agreed a deal already so perhaps this source hasn’t gotten ahead of itself. The Gunners boss will be keen to bring in some big name players this summer after a poor season and he would also like to increase his ‘homegrown’ compliment ahead of the new Premier League regulations.
In good news though for the Emirates side, the club is at least holding firm on its stance with regards to Barcelona’s incessant hunt for Cesc Fabregas. Their statement couldn’t have been more forthright but I am sure we have not heard the last of that particular transfer soap opera.
So Arsenal fans. If Joe Cole is coming to the club, would you be pleased? Is he the type of creative talent you could never turn away, even if does come from the west London side?
