David Beckham trains with the England squad during a World Cup soccer training session near Rustenburg

DAVID BECKHAM Texted Theo Walcott to help him get over his shock World Cup omission.

Beckham – who is also missing the tournament due to an Achilles injury – is being used by Fabio Capello as his Mr Motivator in South Africa.

But the former England skipper took it upon himself to give Arsenal star Walcott a lift after he was axed from the provisional 30-man squad on Tuesday.

Becks – who at 35 is 14 years the winger’s senior – told Walcott to keep his chin up and reminded him of his huge talent.

And Goldenballs said that the setback would only serve to make him a better and stronger player.

The former Manchester United star took Walcott under his wing when the then 17-year-old was a stunning inclusion in Sven-Goran Eriksson’s squad for the last World Cup in Germany.

Walcott did not feature in 2006 but the pair, who both operate wide on the right, have since become close and text and speak regularly.

Becks plans to call him in the next week for a lengthy chat once the dust has settled. Despite being the most famous footballer on the planet and the face of England’s 2018 World Cup bid, he has had his own fair share of lows in his long career. (Daily Star)

For some reason this story makes us laugh at COS Towers. Is there some reason he is with the England team, other than any contractual obligation on behalf of a sponsor or another, because he seems desperate to find something to do whilst the rest of the England squad (the ones that were picked and are fit and healthy) get on with it.

I can imagine Becks offering to make cups of tea with furthered abandon as he tries his hardest to find things to do. His latest job is seems, one that no one asked him to do, is to text (not talk) to those who were culled from the original 30 man squad. It’s a dirty job but someone’s got to do it.
