Arsene Wenger hints at move for Everton’s Steven Pienaar after suggesting he would ‘get into the Arsenal team’
Gunners could be ready to swoop for Bafana Bafana star…Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger clearly believes that Everton winger Steven Pienaar would be a useful acquisition for the Gunners as speculation continues to surround the South African’s future.
The player is entering the last year of his current deal at Goodison Park and there has as yet been no indication he is ready to sign a new contract.
Toffees boss David Moyes may therefore feel that he needs to cash in on Pienaar, currently in his homeland preparing for the World Cup, before he leaves on a Bosman free, which would net Everton precisely nothing.
“He (Pienaar) has grown this year. He would get into the Arsenal team, yes,” said Wenger, according to The Daily Star.
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have also been linked with a move for Pienaar, who was one of the top flight’s most impressive performers last season. (Goal.com)
So is this source clutching at straws or has Arsene Wenger taken a liking to South African playmaker Steven Pienaar? Well clearly the Arsenal manager is an admirer of the former Ajax man and has been linked with a move for the 28 year old but is he the type of player the Gunners need?
As far as attack minded midfielders the Emirates outfit have a hat ful. Samir Nasri, Tomas Rosicky, Andrei Arshavin and indeed Cesc Fabregas to name just a few. There is no doubt that the pint sized flair player has taken well to life in the Premier League but I can’t see the north London club looking to recruit Pienaar.
The player’s agent has stated on more than one occasion that his client is looking at his options and many believe that David Moyes could face a battle to keep him at Goodison Park but perhaps a move to Manchester City is more likely, depending of course on whether Roberto Mancini lands James Milner first.
