Is Harry really about to bring Gabriel Agbonlahor to White Hart Lane?
NEGOTIATIONS between Aston Villa and Spurs are about to start over Gabriel Agbonlahor.
Villa boss Martin O’Neill wants to sign Robbie Keane from Tottenham and Harry Redknapp wants Agbonlahor in exchange.
Agbonlahor’s raw pace is seen as an asset as Spurs prepare for their debut season in the Champions League, while Keane’s White Hart Lane career is over after a loan spell with Celtic and he has always been admired by O’Neill.
Spurs value Keane at £12m and Agbonlahor will command a similar fee when the two clubs begin talks.
Redknapp has other targets in mind, but fears he has lost out on Joe Cole.
His salary demands, in excess of £100,000 a week, are way out of Tottenham’s budget for next season. (News of the World)
I really don’t know what to make of this News of the World ‘story’. On what universe would 29 year old Robbie Keane be valued the same as 23 year old England man Gabriel Agbonlahor? One is a player, who though still deadly in front of goal, is known to be ready to leave Tottenham as Redknapp looks to change his attacking options and the other is a player who Aston Villa would do anything to avoid losing.
Clearly if this deal was real and Harry went to Villa Park and made this offer Martin O’Neill would think he was drunk! Quite why the White Hart Lane side need to spend big on another front man is beyond me. If Roman Pavlyuchenko stays at the club, and the latest on that appears to be that he will, then surely the north London side only needs a back up for a back up?
They already have Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch, two players who only arrived in the past 18 months. The midlands side have seen all of their top talent linked with all and sundry and O’Neill is the type of manager who will not stand and watch any leave for paltry sums, if at all.
I find this swap deal most unlikely to say the least.
