Emirates side to offer former Stamford Bridge man mega pay day!
Arsenal will make Joe Cole their highest earner after the World Cup as they prepare to beat off competition from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotsur, according to reports.
Cole, 28, rejected a deal from Chelsea after demanding parity with the likes of Frank Lampard and John Terry, despite missing the bulk of last season with a serious injury, but Arsenal are prepared to give him that.
According to the Daily Star, the Gunners will offer Islington-born Cole £135,000 per week in a packet that works out as £4 million per year plus an additional £2.5 million a year in signing-on fees. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
The deal reported by this source would cost Arsenal £28m over a three year period and whilst that may appear to be a very large sum of money given the fact that Joe Cole won’t cost a penny in transfer fees it actually probably still works out as something of a bargain.
The 28 year old Chelsea contract rebel has still got a lot to offer. Sidelined with niggling injuries for the past two seasons the former West Ham man is a top notch performer who would have cost at least £15m if he had been under contract and Arsene Wenger knows that he needs experienced players to help balance out his youthful side.
Cole has been there and done it, a title winner with years of top notch displays under his belt. He could be a helpful player to link midfield to attack and will surely be out to prove a point to his former west London employers who decided not to give in to his contract demands.
