Old Trafford side ready to make offer for Inter Milan attacking midfielder.
Manchester United are set to offer £20 million for Inter star Wesley Sneijder, according to the Sunday Mirror.
The 26-year-old has caught the eye of a host of top clubs after helping the Serie A side to the treble last season as well as impressing for the Netherlands at the World Cup.
And the Mirror claims that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is willing to go head-to-head with Real Madrid for the midfielder’s services.
Sneijder only moved to the San Siro from the Bernabeu last summer after being told he was surplus to requirements by boss Manuel Luis Pellegrini.
But Pellegrini has since been replaced by Jose Mourinho and the Dutchman recently admitted he would consider a move back to Spain to work with his former manager.
Any possible deal will hinge on whether new Inter coach Rafael Benitez would be willing to sell his star playmaker while Ferguson’s heated relationship with the Spaniard during his tenure at Liverpool could also prove a stumbling block for the Red Devils’ hopes. (Goal.com)
If this move is indeed accurate then Sir Alex may want to adjust his valuation of the Champions League winner because clearly he is worth more than Joleon Lescott! I can see why Ferguson would want to bring the Dutch international to Old Trafford and perhaps with Jose Mourinho out of the picture a move is a possibility, but there seems little chance the Italians would accept such a derisory bid.
Currently on World Cup duty the former Real Madrid man made the wise decision to flee the Bernabeu when it became clear he wouldn’t be a first choice player, his move to the San Siro couldn’t have worked out any better as the 26 year old flair player helped the Nerazzurri to the treble in his first season.
I think it would take a bid nearer £30m to even make Rafa Benitez consider such a sale, but even then its well worth Ferguson testing the water with such a move, just so long as he has the money to do so.
