Former Anfield boss looking to pounce for England captain.
Rafa Benitez is reportedly lining up a big money bid to bring Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard to the San Siro and is apparently ready to offer Inter Milan players as part of any deal in order to sweeten the deal. The former Anfield boss is hoping that the offer of the pick of the likes of Mario Balotelli, Sulley Muntari or Thiago Motta as well as cash sum may tempt the Merseyside into considering an offer for their mercurial captain.
With no manager installed to replace him Benitez is hoping to make use of any uncertainty to try to persuade Gerrard to consider leaving Liverpool. The Spaniard knows he faces a tough task to make a move a reality but is also aware that the current state of the club is such that the England man may feel he needs to leave the club in order to fulfil any Champions League ambitions.
Real Madrid are also said to be sniffing around the 30 year old and it seems it would take a fee of around the £30-35m mark to even spark interest in a sale. Offering players of the quality of the three linked with such a move could well be tempting but one imagines that unless the player himself states his intention to leave then any deal is in many ways doomed to failure.
