Landon Donovan promised more heroics after his injury-time winner against Algeria put the United States top of Group C and into the last 16.
Donovan’s 91st-minute goal relegated England to second place and knocked Slovenia out of the tournament.
“People watching back home – we’re not done yet,” stated a jubilant Donovan.
“Algeria were pushing and we had to take the fight to them. Time felt like it stopped when I scored but I just couldn’t miss it from there.”
Los Angeles Galaxy striker Donovan said the US had a goal “stolen” from them in the 2-2 draw with Slovenia when Maurice Edu’s 85th-minute volley was chalked off by Malian referee Koman Coulibaly for an infringement inside the box, despite replays suggesting two Slovenian defenders were impeding American attackers.“We had a bad decision against Slovenia but we are Americans. We get on with it, we don’t complain,” added Donovan. “We’re alive baby.”
The US secured top spot in Group C by virtue of a better goalscoring record than England, who have scored two goals in three matches, while Bob Bradley’s side have hit the back of the net on four occasions.
And Bradley, whose team will face Ghana in Rustenburg on Saturday, praised the endeavour and spirit of his squad.
“These guys put a lot into it,” he said. “They never quit. We were pushing hard for a goal. It made for a wide open game but we needed a win.” (BBC Sport)

Bob Bradley has seen his side display remarkable fighting spirit thus far and will be hoping for yet more heart from his United States team. Having come back from behind in their opening two matches and then beaten Algeria in injury time the Americans find themselves in the last 16, despite numerous officiating blunders that could have cost them dear.
Ghana will offer a stiff test having done well to make it out of a tough group to edge Serbia and Australia for second spot.
