The FA yesterday (below) decide to act in their standard inept fashion.
The Football Association have told Fabio Capello he will have to wait another two weeks to find out if he has a future as England manager.
Capello, 64, said he wanted to stay in the post despite England’s second-round World Cup exit at the hands of Germany.
But after a meeting with Club England chairman Sir Dave Richards he was told he would have to wait for a decision.
Capello, who is reported to earn £5m a year, said: “I like this job. I like to be England manager.” (BBC Sport)
Is this a joke? The FA are known to be dawdling, befuddled individuals who really don’t appear to care or know anything about the Beautiful Game, but this is just mind boggling. Either these guys have very short memories or they are irretrievably insane. Fabio Capello wants to remain in the post that he in my view deserves to keep and there response to the Italian’s call for unequivocal backing is to say “We’ll get back to you”.
Obviously no one is happy with the way the World Cup went but the lions share of the blame lies squarely with the players who, to a man, failed to turn up. Remember that we are talking about a manager who has won domestic titles in Spain and Italy with four different teams as well as the Champions League, he guided England through the qualifying process with ease and a great deal of tactical astuteness.
There is even talk, hopefully just mindless speculation, that Roy Hodgson may be a shock replacement for the outgoing Capello. This is with any luck someone’s idea of a very sick joke.
