Old Trafford boss linked with move for French international.
Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to be readying a bid for Real Madrid bench warmer Karim Benzema this summer but the Manchester United boss must first attempt to secure funds from more player sales with the likes of Dimitar Berbatov and Anderson being among those deemed dispensable.
The former Lyon striker is known to be a player that Ferguson has courted for some time but with the arrival of Jose Mourinho at the club it would seem that the French international is even further from the top of the pecking order than he was under Manuel Pellegrini. Lack of first team action then led to Benzema missing out on Raymond Domenech’s World Cup squad.
The Old Trafford club are saddled with massive debts but they are hoping that the Spanish giants will look to sell the 22 year old quickly and perhaps for a cut price fee so as to trim what has already become an unwieldy squad that the new boss is certain to add to.
The Bernabeu side paid £31m last summer but are thought to be willing to accept around £25m for the talented forward and if Ferguson can offload more of his lesser talents, hot on the heels of Ben Foster’s £6m move to Birmingham City and Zoran Tosic’s move to CSKA Moscow, then he may well be able to finally capture a player who could well work wonders alongside England man Wayne Rooney.
