Owen Hargreaves will miss the start of the season due to injury, Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has announced.
The midfielder, who made just one appearance for United last season following an 18-month absence through injury, has suffered another setback after a series of knee problems.
The Red Devils depart for their training camp in Chicago on Monday for their summer tour, which Hargreaves was expected to be part of, but the 29-year-old will instead have further treatment.
“The bad news is that Owen Hargreaves is back in America seeing a specialist,” Ferguson told MUTV.

One wonders if Mr. Hargreaves will ever get back to his former full fitness. Clearly once you experience a long term injury there is always the possibility that a full recovery will never happen and that must be the fear for the England international.
Sir Alex may well have to put into place contingency plans if the former Bayern Munich man doesn’t recover and perhaps in the mean time he can get the 29 year old to do some odd jobs around his house? Clearing the guttering, maybe a spot of gardening. Stuff to keep his mind ticking over until his next spell of fitness, which will last for approximately as long as it takes to walk to a football and kick it.
Maybe Michael Owen can also help tidy up around the Ferguson premises?
