Harry Redknapp has confirmed Tottenham remain well in the hunt to capture the signature of free agent Joe Cole.
Cole is out of contract after leaving Chelsea and has been linked with a move to Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Redknapp’s Spurs.
Redknapp revealed he would “love” to sign the 28-year-old England international but will leave the finer details of the discussions to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
Redknapp told Talksport: “We’re interested in Joe. I know Daniel was talking to his people and we’re interested.
“If the chairman can pull a deal off I’d love to have him at Tottenham. But it all comes down to if we can do a deal.
“I don’t get involved in the financial side; the chairman can do that with Joe’s people. Hopefully there is a deal that can be done because we would love him at White Hart Lane.” (Independent)
Other sources have also claimed that the deal that Joe Cole is hoping to get done will cost £100k a week over a three year deal and if indeed Harry Redknapp can secure such a signing he will be helping the north London side get even stronger than they were last term when their strength in depth led to that coveted top four spot.
Redknapp has been very candid about this desire to lure his former West Ham charge to White Hart Lane, its a deal that can only really be threatened by interest from Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City.
One wonders however if Liverpool can afford to finance the move and without Champions League football to offer may lose the 28 year old’s interest. Manchester City can offer the money but once again, not the a place in the top European competition.
Which would seemingly leave the Gunners, who have also reportedly been looking to secure a deal for the attacking midfielder. One can see why Cole is keen to take his time over accepting any offer as this could well be the last big move of his career.
