Barcelona President Sandro Rosell arrived yesterday in South Africa with the intention of holding face-to-face talks with Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger over Cesc Fabregas
According to Barcelona sources, the two will meet today, on the eve of the World Cup final.
Rosell aims to try and persuade Wenger that to let his captain go, and according to El Mundo Deportivo, he will tell the Arsenal coach that the club is wiling to pay 45 million euros for Fabregas’ signature.
The paper says the Barcelona president wants the meeting to be as discreet as possible so as not to unsettle Fabregas before the World Cup final
Earlier this week, Rosell said he wanted to wrap up the deal for the Arsenal captain as quickly as possible.
“It’s now or never,” Rosell told the Spanish Sport newspaper ahead of his trip to South Africa. “We’ll do it fast, it cannot be drawn out any longer. I’ll try to meet with [Arsenal Manager Arsene] Wenger, and we’ll see what happens.” (IMScouting)
I am not quite sure what Sandro Rosell expects to happen if he does indeed arrange face to face talks with Arsene Wenger, does the Barcelona President think he will get a new response from the Arsenal boss? The north London club can’t make it any clearer about their intention to keep their captain, but still the Catalan club persists in their attempts to nab the Spaniard.
The ball is very much in Cesc Fabregas’s court now. If he chooses to push for a move and actually puts in a transfer request then things may change but until that happens, if it ever does, then the La Liga giants are best off just leaving well alone, which of course they will not do.
