Old Trafford midfielder wanted by both Sunderland and White Hart Lane outfit.
Tottenham are rumoured to be ready to make a bid for former midfielder Michael Carrick. The Manchester United man is said to be a player Sir Alex Ferguson is willing to listen to offers for and with Sunderland reportedly ready to make a cheeky £7m bid for the England international, Harry Redknapp feels that now would be the right time to enter the race for the former White Hart Lane man.
The 28 year old has returned from a disappointing World Cup trip where he wasn’t used at all by Fabio Capello and could now be set for an Old Trafford exit as he appears to be expendable after a fairly poor season at the club last term.
If indeed an offer is made by the north London side Carrick is sure to be more interested in a move to the Champions League side rather than a move back to his native north-east. Tottenham are reportedly ready to bid up to £12m for the three time Premier League winner.
A return to the club where he enjoyed two good seasons could work for all concerned as Ferguson picked Carrick for 22 Premier League starts last season, lower than in any of his previous three seasons at the club and Sir Alex may look to use the likes of youngsters Darron Gibson and Anderson on a more regular basis or choose instead to move for a new midfielder entirely.
Interest in Michael Carrick – Sunderland are weighing up a £7million bid for Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is prepared to listen to offers for the England midfielder, who turns 29 at the end of the month. Wallsend-born Carrick, like Bruce a boyhood Newcastle fan, struggled to hold down a regular place at Old Trafford last season, starting only two of the last nine games as they lost their title to Chelsea.
