Arsene Wenger last night snubbed Barcelona’s attempts to set up a World Cup summit over Cesc Fabregas.

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell flew into South Africa hoping to meet with Wenger and Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis before last night’s World Cup final.

But Mirror Sport can reveal that Wenger and Gazidis refused to meet with Barcelona this weekend – and have reiterated their message that Fabregas is not for sale at any price.

It is a hammer blow to Barcelona’s attempts to sign Fabregas and Arsenal will not back down on the issue, having already turned down an offer of £30m. (Daily Mirror)

You have to admire the manner in which Arsenal have acquitted themselves throughout this whole sordid affair and I have an image in my mind (next to the one of Drew Barrymore and some whipped cream) of Barca chief Sandro Rosell looking at his watch whilst holding a large bag of money and wondering where Mr. Wenger is.

No amount of money will persuade the Gunners to sell and its only down to the player himself now. If Cesc Fabregas comes out and says he wants to leave, which seems increasingly unlikely, then who knows, but until or indeed if, that happens the Catalan giants may as well steer clear.
